How to Make A Valentine’s Candy Basket

Candy vase

If you read my post on how to make a frosted winter or Christmas vase, you know my love for shopping at Dollar Tree for craft supplies that won’t break the bank.  I wanted to make a special gift for the men in my life as a surprise for Valentine’s Day, but had several problems. It couldn’t be mushy because teenage guys don’t go for that and it couldn’t be chocolate because Bryan is allergic.  Yes, I know, worst allergy ever.   I decided to make them a candy basket using only candy they liked.   Want to make a basket for your sweetie?

Needed Supplies

Here’s what you need:
Pair of scissors
Tape
Glue
small piece of cardboard
4 packages of movie theater sized candy
4 to 5 regular sized candy bars
1 package fun sized candy bars
craft sticks
floral foam
shredded paper confetti

box
Glue boxes together. Tape into place until glue is dry.

Begin by gluing the four boxes of movie theater candy together.  I used some tape to hold them in place until they dried.  Tip: Measure the boxes to make sure they are the same size or they will not fit together properly.

cardboard
Glue cardboard into place. Tape to hold.

Turn the boxes over and glue a piece of cardboard to the bottom. Once again I used tape to hold it in place.

Floral Foam

Place a small piece of floral foam inside of the candy box.

sticks

Now comes the fun part.  Tape a piece of candy a craft stick.  It will probably take two pieces of tape to hold it securely. Position the stick into the vase where you would like it, using varying heights.   I used a 5 pieces of Avengers taffy since the men in the family are big fans and the packaging was colorful.  I used three packages of Dots for the fun sized candy because they are my favorite.  I think they are supposed to share their good fortune, don’t you?

filling

Finally, add the shredded paper confetti to the top of the candy basket.  When my son saw it he told me, “Hey! That looks pretty good, Mom. Can we eat it?”  I guess this is high praise from a teenager.

What would you put in your candy basket?
