How To Make An Ornament Christmas Tree Picture

Christmas brings out my crafty side. I see tons of decorating ideas on Pinterest and think, “I need to decorate every room in our house in different Christmas themes!” Then, I read through my favorite magazine, Southern Living, and think, “Yes, I need to bake all these Christmas cakes! And these casseroles! Maybe this pie!” After writing down all my ideas, I promptly get bogged down with all the things I need to do during the holidays and forget about the complicated crafts I want to do and mounds of cake I want to bake. This year I found an easy, low-cost ornament Christmas Tree Picture I had made in the past. I decided to give it a slight update and bring it out to hang up again. It can be made so quickly and uses dollar store supplies. Who am I kidding? This is my favorite kind of project.

Before you begin, decide on the color of ornaments you want to use. You can mix and match if you like. Make it personalized! Another way to save costs on this is to pick up some of the supplies at your favorite thrift store. I purchased my large picture frame for a dollar.Ready to begin?

Here’s what you need:

22 medium-sized plastic ornaments in colors of your choice (more or less, depending if you use a different sized frame)
9″ by 13″ frame (in black, if possible)–any size frame can be used, just adapt the number of ornaments to fit
Black Spray Paint
Metallic Pearl White Paint
One Paper Napkin or paper towel
One small star-shaped ornament
Fake Snow
Super Glue (or crafting glue, but super glue dries faster)

Directions

Paint the frame and the cardboard insert inside the frame black. Allow the paint to dry. Pour a small amount of the white paint on the napkin. Gently dab the napkin across the bottom of the canvas to resemble snow. Allow the white paint to dry completely.

Arrange the ornaments into a Christmas tree-shaped pattern. The easiest way to make the tree is to begin just above the edge of the “snow.” If using 22 ornaments, place six ornaments on the board and glue into place. Place a row of five ornaments directly above the row of six ornaments and glue ornaments into place. Continue arranging ornaments above each line of ornaments, decreasing by one ornament each time. You will have a row of four ornaments, then three, then two, then one. Above the one ornament glue the small star-shaped ornament. You can also use mini ornaments in different colors, like red and green, to make “ornaments” on your tree if you like. Just glue the mini ornaments in different places on your tree. After the tree dries, dab glue onto the painting and add the fake snow, scattering around the picture. I dropped fake snow directly into the white paint on the bottom.  You can be as creative as you like to personalize your tree!

Do you make big plans during the holidays that you can’t keep like I do? Have you made any Christmas crafts this year? I’d love to know what you have made.
