Inn on the Square, Greenwood, South Carolina

Looking for a place to stay in Greenwood, South Carolina that provides you the luxuries of home? The Inn on the Square delivers. Located in the center of downtown Greenwood, the building dates back to the early years of the 20th century. It’s been renovated to retain the charm and character of the original buildings while offering an upscale guest experience. I was invited to spend a weekend as a guest of Inn on the Square during the recent Festival of Flowers and enjoyed every moment of my stay. Wondering what makes the Inn so special? I’ve got the lowdown.

Reasons To Choose Inn on The Square

1. Privacy– The Inn is small, boasting only 46 rooms.  On the weekend I visited, the Inn was rented out by one family for a wedding party. They graciously allowed me to stay in the Inn along with their party. Even after the family left on Sunday, and the Inn resumed its normal activity, it was still quiet and peaceful, even during the busy Sunday brunch hours.

2. Comfort– Comfort is the keyword at the Inn on the Square. The lobby features cozy sitting areas mixed in with the classic decor. A sideboard with a prepare your own gourmet coffee and tea service is available 24/7. The luxury continues throughout the hotel with the four available types of guest rooms;  Executive guest rooms with a king bed, Atrium rooms with one queen bed or our Uptown rooms with two queen beds or a king bed. All of the rooms feature slimline HD televisions and premium toiletries and linens. Rooms with microwaves and refrigerators are available upon request.

Upon entering my room I was greeted with the site of a delicious charcuterie platter and a bottle of wine.  And the bed. Piled high with pillows and with an exceptionally comfortable mattress, it beckoned me for naps and a long nights rest.

3. Exceptional Guest Services- From the moment I entered the hotel until the moment I left, I was given courteous service from everyone to the front desk staff, to the waitresses and bartender, to the cleaning staff.   I managed to lock myself out of my room twice, and instead of showing the slightest disdain, they cheerfully replaced my card, assuring me it was “no problem.” When I needed directions for the garden tour and the church tour, they patiently helped me map out a route to keep me from backtracking and recommended their favorite local restaurants.

When I checked out, I was asked about my stay and for any areas they could improve. When I replied, honestly, that I had exceptional service, they invited me to email them if I remembered anything they could improve. The Inn on the Square also provides some of my favorite amenities; free parking, free high-speed wi-fi, and wake up service. If you’re traveling with a furry friend, they are pet-friendly.

4. The Food.  Breakfast at the Carriage House Restaurant is served daily from 6:30 am until 10 am and it is delicious.  The menu includes a choice of four of the following items: Pancakes, French Toast, Corned Beef Hash, Eggs (prepared anyway), Fresh Fruit, Applewood Smoked Bacon, Sausage, and Sausage Gravy, along with either biscuits or toast. Drink choices include either coffee, tea, and orange juice.  Breakfast is included in the price of the room but is also open to the public for a charge of $10.  During my stay, I tried as many items on the breakfast menu as I could. The pancakes were light and fluffy, and the Brioche French toast was so good it made me sad I couldn’t eat all of it.  Expect large portions with the meal. You won’t leave hungry.

While the Carriage House was sadly closed for dinner during my stay due to private events, they are usually open Wednesday through Saturday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and serve nightly specials.  A Sunday Brunch is also available from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. If you miss the nights the Carriage House is open, step across the hall to the Fox and Hound Lounge, featuring a lounge menu available every night. I dined at The Fox and Hound on a Sunday night, trying the Ribeye Steak sandwich, served with a hefty portion of house fries and a pickle.  The bartender went above and beyond, patiently answering questions about menu items and allergy restrictions. When he didn’t know an answer, he checked with the chef. Be sure to check out their specials including “Saxy Wednesdays” with a guest saxophonist performs from 6-9 PM and special drink prices.
