It was a brisk fall day when I sashayed into my first college Microeconomics class. Eager to begin my Speech class assignment of meeting ten new people before my next class, I plopped down in an available seat. “Hi,” I said, turning to the guy seated across from me, “My name is Pam.” That’s the unromantic story of how I met my husband. You’ve probably heard of stories of love at first sight. This was not one of them. As I explained about meeting ten new people, I thought my (future) shy and introverted husband was going to crawl out of his desk and scramble to the other side of the room. My impression of him was equally dismissive. “Seems like a nice guy,” I told my best friend, “but his pants were too short.”
This is a partnered post with James Avery Jewelry, but all opinions are my own.
Despite this less than auspicious beginning, we became friends. As the quarter wore on we went on group lunch dates, watched movies together, and engaged in a group study session. I also offered fashion advice like “Get longer pants.” Even with my helpful advice, we were dating by the next quarter. Believe me, I was as shocked as everyone else by this turn of events. Who knew the (possibly annoyingly) extroverted person would end up with the reserved, silent guy? I wasn’t even sure how it happened. One day we were friends and, boom! The next day we were dating.
Marrying my husband was one of the best decisions I ever made. He’s my biggest supporter and strongest advocate. He listens to what I have to say (after all, he did take my advice about the longer pants), brings me my favorite treats to surprise me, and has a snarky sense of humor that matches mine. I’m thankful for every day I am able to spend with him. That’s why when I was offered a piece of jewelry from the James Avery Valentine’s Day collection to “Wear My Love Story,” I chose the Feather Necklace because the feathers reminded me of fall leaves. And since we met on a crisp fall day with the leaves falling around us, this is a permanent reminder of that day. Made of Sterling Silver, the feathers represent freedom, nature, and discovery, like the unusual discovery of our love for each other. Available in 15 to 17- inch or 18 to 20-inch sizes, it’s easy to dress this necklace up for an evening out or down for a casual look. I love wearing my Feather necklace because it’s a tangible symbol to me of my love story, weird though it may be.
I’m wearing my love story to a Mardi Gras ball!
