Have I mentioned-more than once each post-how much I am enjoying our new patio remodel? We’ve been making progress left and right, which means lots of entertaining!  When I asked the kids what item they most wanted for our patio  they surprised me by all readily agreeing to a fire pit! “We can make S’mores!” they said.  As soon as I brought the fire pit home  my son assembled it and discussed with his sister and friends the best date to have a S’mores bar.  Their choice? Immediately.  I asked them, “Are you sure you want to build a fire and make S’mores when it is 97 degrees?”  Their answer was a resounding, “Yes.”  Since we were having friends over for a cookout, I ran to Walmart to pick up some supplies and grab the “absolutely necessary items” for a S’mores bar.  While browsing on the candy aisle, I saw something new; Juicy Fruit Bubble Gum and Juicy Fruit Fruity Chews Bottles. I’m a big gum chewer so I added those to my cart to place on our S’mores bar. Who doesn’t like to chew gum after eating S’mores, right?

I had been to a S’mores bar in Florida and was introduced to all kinds of new options for S’mores.  Instead of only having plain chocolate bars, they had added peanut butter cups and vanilla wafers.  “You wouldn’t believe how good they are,” I was told.  They were right! I was so inspired I added even more choices to my bar; peanut butter cups, milk chocolate and caramel bars, plain chocolate bars and cookies and cream bars.

I added a variety of options for the crackers as well.  Instead of only having plain graham crackers, I also purchased chocolate graham crackers and vanilla wafers. I had planned on buying a box of gluten free graham crackers for my daughter, but they were unavailable. Instead, I went with gluten free chocolate chip cookies.
marshmallows

As for the marshmallows, did you know they make them in S’mores size now?  How cool is that?  I arranged the candies into jars, placed wooden bamboo skewers into a small metal bucket and added the marshmallows and crackers onto trays. Once these were set up, it was simple to add chalkboard signs with the names of the items into small plastic pails. My chewing gum was added for to the display as a finishing touch.  I received lots of compliments that it looked too pretty to eat, but I didn’t notice this stopping anyone!  It didn’t seem to faze the kids (or adults) that most of the chocolate melted in the heat before it was added to the S’mores!
