How to Make Outdoor Lawn Art With Glass Plates

I have a secret obsession- lawn art. I love wandering through well manicured gardens with well placed cute decor. It adds to the ambiance and relaxes me.  I do have a couple of problems with recreating these beautiful gardens at my home; the time and expense needed to create them.  I’ve adapted by planting two small herb gardens beside my house. They provide atmosphere and are small enough to allow me time to work in them. Plus, I can grab fresh herbs for my dishes for at least six or seven months of the year.  The one thing still missing was the lawn art.  I was pondering what to do to add character when I visited Dollar Tree.  I saw some glass plates and bowls and a light bulb went off in my head. I could recreate some of the designs I had seen in art shops for a fraction of a cost.
Lawn Art with Plates

Here’s what you need to make the lawn art:
1 plate in the color of your choice   (I used the elegant cut glass dinner plate)
1 matching bowl  (I used the elegant cut glass matching bowl)
Accent Gems (I used a mixed bag of different blue shades)
Super Glue
One stake (I used an electric fence tie because we live in an area that receives a lot of heavy winds and tornados. I prefer to keep my lawn art standing, if possible.)

Here’s how to make the art:
Wash the plate and bowl and allow them to dry.  Use the super glue to fasten the bowl to the center of the plate.

Arrange the gems in a pattern on the inside of the bowl and glue into place.
Lawn Art Step 2

Arrange the remaining gems around the side of the plate. Glue into place and allow the entire piece to dry.
Lawn Art Step 3

Glue the plates to the stake of your choice. Be sure to allow this to dry thoroughly before you stand it in your garden. It will fall and break!

The total for my lawn art was around $5 and that included the heavy duty fence post I had to buy at the farm supply store.  I think it turned out great and can’t wait to make more! What ideas do you have for lawn decoration?

This post was brought to you by Dollar Tree, however, all opinions of lawn art and thrifty decor are my own.
