How to Make a Pedestal Candy Dish

I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper amplification for Collective Bias and its advertiser. All opinions are my own, #collectivebias

“Wedding music,” I declared, sitting straight up in bed, “What are we doing for wedding music?” Since my daughter announced her intention to be married six weeks prior to the event, Bryan has become immune to my nightly ramblings. What they haven’t become immune to is my inability to do all the activities I usually do for them. “Um, have my favorite jeans, shirt, fill in the blank, been washed?” seems to be a daily refrain. I prefer to do the laundry myself because Bryan and the kids believe in the no sorting method. This has caused a lot of color bleeding accidents over the years and some unhappy men with pink undies.
DIY Mason Jar Candy Dishes

I had always believed sorting laundry was an essential part of the cleaning routine, but the new Purex® No Sort™ for Colors , whose motto “The Rules have changed,” contains dye transfer inhibitor which traps loose dyes in the wash and keeps them from settling on surrounding fabric. This is good news because I can (almost) stop sorting and do less loads of laundry. It’s #LaundrySimplified! Since Purex® No Sort™ for Colors will prevent color bleeding, I can have the kids do laundry when I am in a pinch and not worry about those pesky bleeding stains, leaving me more time to make things for the wedding, like these DIY Mason Jar Candy dishes.

Clean Laundry and no worries about how to remove color spots from bleeding clothes.

Here’s what you need to make them (for each dish):

1 clear glass candle holder
1 clear mason jar
lids, if desired
glass or craft paint, in the color of your choice
Super glue or tacky glue
small paint brush

Place the candle holder on a piece of newspaper and paint the color of your choice. Allow the paint to dry and apply a second coat. If using lids on the jars, paint lids, allow to dry, repaint a second time. Spread a thin layer of glue on the bottom of the jar. Place the jar on top of the candle holder. Allow to dry. Fill with candy. This would also be cute used as a candle holder by placing a tea light inside the Mason jar.

Step 1 Paint & Repeat
Step 2
Find different sized mason jars that can be glued to the top of the candle holder.

A word of advice before turning the laundry completely over to the kids, remember Purex® No Sort™ for Colors is packed with innovation, but it can’t perform miracles, so please follow these words of advice: wash strongly colored fabrics or new pieces of clothing, especially jeans, separately at least 5 times before doing a mixed color load with Purex® No Sort™ for Colors. It’s available at Walmart, where I always seem to be lately for last minute items.

  7. Those are neat … great idea for a way to save on ridiculously outlandish wedding expenses! It’s crazy how much a wedding can run! Have you seen Jim Gaffigan’s routine on weddings? It’s hilarious. Mind you, I am a typical wedding-loving kind of girl, but he has a point: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oo_UooohmQM 🙂

  24. I was skeptical when I tried this but I threw a white towel in with the reds and it actually came out… white! I’m one of those people who hates laundry but still refuses to mix colors. Not only do I separate out reds but I also sub-separate the light pinks from the dark pinks and reds. This will save some work!
