On a recent trip to Helen, Georgia, we decided to stop at Muller´s Fried Cheese Café. Helen is a Bavarian town in the Northeast Georgia Mountains, and you’re remiss to visit Helen without stopping at a German restaurant. We had been to several other German restaurants in town, but had never stopped at Muller’s. Thanks to our Restaurant.com gift certificate, we decided to drop in and were glad we did!
There is no free parking for Muller’s, so your best option is to park at the city lot slightly down the street. If you pay to park at the city lot near Muller’s, you have convenient access to not only the restaurant, but to most of the other shops in Helen. Parking is only $2 for the day and helps maintain the town.
The first thing we noticed about Muller’s when we arrived was that it was fairly small, with only five tables inside and four tables outside. Because the restaurant is so small, reservations are recommended. However, our party of five was seated almost instantaneously on the patio. It began to rain before we ordered, and we were taken to a high top table inside. The table was meant for four, but with an extra chair pulled up we had enough space for all of us.
Muller’s is a little pricey, but most of the restaurants in Helen run in the same price range, so it’s no surprise. We were dining for lunch, and none of us wanted to eat a particularly heavy meal before tubing the Chattahoochee for two hours, so most of us ordered sandwiches.
Between the five of us, we ordered two chicken schnitzel sandwiches, Muller’s famous fried cheese sandwich, a bratwurst hoagie, and the bratwurst dinner with sauerkraut and Muller’s housemade potato salad.
Everyone enjoyed their food, especially the chicken schnitzel sandwiches and the potato salad. The fried cheese was good, but the chicken schnitzel was preferred by almost everyone. The homemade potato salad contained potatoes, parsnips, and was garnished with parsley. It was rich and creamy and we probably could have eaten a bowl of it on its own. Everything is freshly prepared when it is ordered, so there is a wait time for the food, but it is well worth the wait.
The bratwurst on the platter was served with brown mustard, which was a nice contrast to the meaty flavor of the sausage. It went well with the sauerkraut, which was fine, but overshadowed by the potato salad. Despite being sandwich plates, the portions were large enough for all of us to leave feeling satisfied, but not over-stuffed. If we were back in Helen, we would stop here again and order plenty of chicken schnitzel and potato salad.

Im surprised its so small. For a well known place that makes such yummy food, I hope they expand so more can enjoy a visit there.
The food here sounds yummy and the restaurant looks beautiful. I’m even loving the name but I’m not a fan of pricey restaurants but this one the food sounds good.
This restaurant looks like it has some delicious dishes. I love trying new foods.
From the outside it looks like such a charming and lovely restaurant. The food looks delicious too.
I would also love to get some cheesey brats for everyone. I would love to go to a restaurant that has fried anything I haven’t had fried foods in a long time.
Ah the name alone makes me happy. I’d love to get the brats for my oldest, he’s a huge fan (and not even from Wisconsin). 😉
This food looks so delicious. I would love to try fried cheese. I bet the kids would love it.
I have never tried fried cheese before. It sounds delicious. I like putting cheese curds on my french fries with gravy.
That potato salad looks so good. I recently took my kids to a German Restaurant and they LOVED it!
Now you are talking! I grew up in Wisconsin and this is our kind of food. If I am ever in Helena, Georgia, I will make sure I check out Muellers.
You had me at fried cheese. Oh my goodness, all of this food sounds delicious

All the plates look yummy. I love the curb appeal of this pace too, so pretty! I love fried cheese!
I think it would be great to reserve a table for lunch there on a nice day. I’d definitely have to try the chicken schnitzel
Fried cheese? Yes please. Everything looks fabulous!
Bratwurst hoagie please. I have learned to love this kind of food and I can’t wait until we have Wurstfest here.
All the food looks delicious. Sometimes, price is not so important if the food is really good.
That sounds like a lovely place to eat at. Seems like it is worth the little bit extra 🙂
I just love the atmosphere outside! That looks like the coolest restaurant to visit! I wonder what it looks like inside. But the food looks delicious too!
The Fried Cheese Cafe won me over just with its name. I’d love to eat there. The food looks amazing.
Fried Cheese Café?? Just the name alone would bring me in, but the look of the food would keep me there and coming back! The bratwurst and sauerkraut sandwich looked amazing.
Oh goodness, this food is making me hungry. I’m pretty sure the words fried and cheese were meant to be together.
Now you’re talking my style! Being only an hour from the Wisconsin border, fried cheese is something we enjoy quite often!
