5 Bingeworthy Sci-Fi Shows & Movies

Sci-fi has long been one of my favorite genres. It can be cheesy, creepy, and downright weird at times, but I love it anyway. Luckily for me, Netflix provides plenty of sci-fi and fantasy options for when I want to watch something that lets me forget the world and get lost in a totally different one. From animated options to feature length films, here’s a list of 5 bingeworthy Sci-Fi Shows and Movies I’m watching lately.
5 Bingeworthy Sci-Fi Shows

1. Fullmetal Alchemist: This anime follows two brothers who have committed the ultimate sin in alchemy: trying to resurrect human life. In a world where the greatest rule is equivalent exchange, or the idea that “in order to gain, one must give something of equal value in return,” what could be the price for a human soul?

2. The Shannara Chronicles: Post-apocalpytic elves. Does that sound interesting to you? If not, it should. This MTV series is based off a book series by Terry Brooks. Although the movie or TV series is never as good as the books, this part dystopian/part fantasy show is worth a watch. The Shannara Chronicles follows a half-elf boy who discovers he’s the last of a long line of elven rulers, an elven princess who is vowed to protect a mystical tree, an a human girl who is caught up in the action. These three are at the heart of a dangerous quest to protect the rest of the races from a line of demons bent on destroying the world once and for all.

3. Stardust: Based on a Neil Gaiman novel of the same name, this movie is about a man on the edge of a magical world. Although where he lives is pretty normal, he gets his life shaken up when he crosses the wall next to his village to fetch a falling star as a proof of love for a girl who ignores him.

4. The Giver: Another movie based on a novel, this is a movie about a boy in a world where emotions no longer exist. The government has created a “utopia,” where everyone is happy because they’re devoid of emotions and free choice. When the boy is given the most important task in the society, his perspective on life starts to change. Will it have dangerous consequences, or will he change the world for the better?

5. The Core: You know those sci-fi movies that you love just because they’re so weird? This is one of them. This 2003 movie has been watched by middle and high schoolers everywhere since then. The world needs a jumpstart, and there’s only one way to do it: dig to the middle of the earth and blow things up. That’s it. That’s the whole plot.
