We are busy preparing for the new addition to the family in April. While we are busy designing the nursery and stocking up on baby supplies, we’re also preparing for any health problems the baby might have. My daughter has several genetic diseases and we’ve already been informed these will pass along to the baby. Add this to the fears all new parents face and we are in for some long and restless nights! Of course, as Nana Pam, I want to help in any way I can. Also, I am hoping to eliminate any of those desperate 3 AM phone calls looking for advice. When we were offered an Owlet Baby Vitals Monitor, I knew this would be just the thing to help alleviate Brittany’s fears. The Owlet is a smart sock designed to monitor changes in heart rate and oxygen level. That’s always important because when my first child was born I laid awake at night staring at her to make sure she was breathing.
So, how does it work? The wireless and hypoallergenic Owlet sock is placed on baby’s foot at night. Using Pulse Oximetry, the same technology as hospitals, the sock measures the baby’s heart rate and oxygen level. If the baby stops breathing, an alarm will sound on the wireless base. There’s also an iOS app that works on any iOS 8 or higher device (iPad & iPad minis 2 and higher, iPhone 4s and higher and iPod 5th generation and above), which will also sound an alarm. Obviously, this isn’t meant to replace checking on the baby often, but I’m all for anything that will give us piece of mind. The design of the sock allows it to fit under other socks or under footie pajamas. Three different sizes of socks included in the package to accommodate growth.
The Owlet sock is washable as long as the electronic devices inside are removed before washing, making it easy to keep clean. It also has a 100 day satisfaction guarantee and free shipping through December 31st. This would be a great gift idea for an upcoming baby shower or for a Christmas present.
What is your best advice for a new parent?
What a great gadget for new parents! I need to keep this in mind!
I have never heard of the Owlet Baby Vitals Monitor, but it sounds like a must have for new parents! I’ll have to keep it in mind.
I’ve never heard of this before until now. What a great product! I wish this was around when I had my kiddos.
It is such a wonderful idea to own such a useful gadget, could be an ideal gift for new parents. I just love that the Owlet sock could measure the baby’s heart rate and oxygen level which is quiet amazing. Would love to check it out.
I really like that it’s washable if the electronics are out. This sounds great to me!
Having a new baby is a stressful and tiring time. Get lots of rest, take help from others.
I definitely always trust my gut however, these gadgets are so helpful!
This is a beyond cool idea! What a great gift for a new parent!
I am absolutely amazed at how far baby products have come in the 14 years since I had my little ones.I know that there are lots of parents that will find this really useful!
I always moms to sleep when the kids sleep. The chores can wait. Or just pick one quick thing to clean and get some rest.
Monitors have some such a long way. My last baby just turned 14. I don’t even recall if he had one
I so need that monitor for my baby, I have to check it out! 😀
This is such a great little gadget to have for new parents. I know the first few months of baby life can be very stressful. That owlet baby vital monitor would help lessen that stress (a little).
Yes, it is such a stressful time.
What an amazing new invention for new parents. I know someone who just spent nine months in the hospital with their baby who has a heart defect. I’m sure they could use this device that monitors the baby’s heart rate and oxygen level.
This is pretty fabulous I’ve never used anything like this with my babies, but then again I had no idea they existed. This is great, My only advice for new parents is to relax, I found when I was 18 and a new mom I would panic about everything and stress….. not helpful!
What a cool device. I love that the socks can conveniently monitor the baby’s heart rate and measure the oxygen level.
Looks so very useful gadget, No more worries for the Mommy’s there. I’m going to tell this to my friend.
This is a great device to have for new moms. I love that there is an app that alerts us of whatever is going on with the baby. I think this would be better than baby monitors.
I agree with trust your gut. It’s almost always the right answer to go with your instincts. This is an amazing monitor. I am so impressed with what they have for babies nowadays!
Trust your gut and go with your instincts. You know your baby best after all
I bought my daughter a baby vital monitor when she was expecting and I will my other daughter if she succeeds in conceiving. I’ll be sure to add this brand to the top of the list.
This is a useful gadget. Parents need something that will give them peace of mind when their baby is asleep. This is perfect.
I think this is a fantastic idea! I can see how this would be so useful for nap time, night time, or when the baby is feeling under the weather. Great!
