Parents Guide to Six Flags Over Georgia

A day spent at Six Flags Over Georgia is a summer tradition for many people in our state. Who can forget the thrill of going down the first hill on the Scream Machine?   Or attempting to get soaked on Thunder River to cool down on a hot summer day? This year Six Flags Over Georgia introduced a new ride; Justice League: Battle For Metropolis.  Perfect for the superhero fan, it’s an interactive 4D action ride that is the first of its kind in the Southeast.  We were invited to check out the new ride and spend a day in the park.  How could we resist?  Want to plan a trip of your own? Here is our Parent’s Guide to Six Flags Over Georgia with insider tips.

Parents Guide to Six Flags Over Ga

1. Save time and money by purchasing online. It’s easy to purchase daily (or season!) tickets, parking passes, and dining discounts online.  You’ll bypass the long lines attempting to purchase their tickets at the park entrance.  Plus, there’s a substantial discount for purchasing park tickets and Dining Discounts online.

2.  Arrive a few minutes before the park opens. There will be less wait time at the entrance gate and you’ll be able to park closer to the tram which takes you to the entrance. Once inside head toward the back of the park to take advantage of fewer crowds and shorter wait times for rides.  If you have a favorite ride, go to this one first and take advantage of shorter lines.  Most people will stop at the rides along the front of the park first.

3.   Plan Your Visit in Advance.  You can view a Park Map online and find the location of your preferred rides, making it easy to plan a path of rides around the park. Once at the park, pick up a map inside the front gate to keep yourself on track.

4.  Consider a “Flash Pass.”  Hate to stand in line? Flash Passes are available for an additional fee and can reduce wait time by up to 90%.  Once you find a ride you like, check in with the Flash Pass and you’ll be given an alert when it’s your turn to ride. You will be able to bypass the lines and enter through the Flash Pass line. The Flash Pass is good for park favorites including Dahlonega Mine Train, The Great American Scream Machine, Monster Mansion and more.

5.  Purchase a Refillable Season Drink Bottle.  A summer day in Georgia will be hot and humid. You’ll find yourself getting thirsty fast! The easiest way to quench your thirst is with a refillable season drink bottle. (Outside food and beverages are not allowed in the park.) If you are just spending the day, purchase the season drink bottle with free refills for the day. Future refills during the season are 99 cents.  If you plan to visit often, purchase a season drink bottle with free refills for the season. It is a huge money saver!

6.  Bring a stroller and snacks for the littles.  Six Flags is a big park. Carrying a toddler gets tiresome quickly. It’s much easier to push a stroller. And, take it from us, don’t forget toddler snacks, especially if you have a child with allergies.

7.  Plan down time.  Walking and standing in line is hard for the entire family, but especially younger children. Plan downtime activities for the toddlers and preschoolers by taking a ride on the train or carousel, visiting the playground or spending time splashing in the water at Paradise Island in Hurricane Harbor.

8. Plan for Hurricane Harbor.  The water park is included in the price of admission. You’ll want to pack a bathing suit, a towel and a waterproof case for your phone.  Lockers are available for rental to store gear.

9. Buy Season Passes.  Planning several visits during the summer? A season pass pays for itself in two visits! This is an easy way to spend time with family and keep the kids entertained.

And, while you’re visiting, be sure to check out JUSTICE LEAGUE: Battle For Metropolis.  Named one of the Top Ten New Amusement Park Attractions of the year by USA Today readers and awarded the Brass Ring for “Best New Product in the World” by the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, it’s a one of a kind attraction.  The 4D experience includes wind, fire, mist, fog and life-like characters as you battle against evil.  You’ll be joined by BATMAN™, SUPERMAN™, WONDER WOMAN, THE FLASH and GREEN LANTERN as you pit your wits against Lex Luthor and The Joker.  *Note: This ride includes virtual loops and does make you feel if you are being pulled in several directions,  so if you have motion sickness, be warned.  You might feel the effects. The ride also has a height limit for riding so younger children might not be allowed.

  15. My kids really enjoy the water so Hurraine Harbor is our favorite. No line and no waiting. I’m going to check out the new Wonder Woman ride today.

  16. Down time should def. be in the plan as you noted. SIx Flags is a big place, it’s easy to overdue it if you don’t take good care.

  17. Our Family World

We have not been to any Six Flags amusement park/resort yet. I would really love to take the kids there someday, while they are still young enough to enjoy all the thrills the park has to offer. Thanks for the tips. Will keep these in mind if we get to Six Flags.

  18. These are all such great tips. We love six flags but have never been to this one. We are going to have to check it out.

  19. Oh waht fun! I took my kids to the one in Texas a few years ago. We had a blast

  20. Whoa this looks like so much fun! I have plenty of friends who would ADORE visiting this Six Flags!

  21. This looks like a great place for a family trip. I didn’t know that Georgia has a place like this.

  22. We haven’t been to any Six Flags amusement park. We live far from any of them. However, looking at your pictures, it does look like it offers a lot of fun for every member of the family. We’ve been looking at going on vacation in Georgia. Who knows it may be this year that we’ll make that trip.

  23. These are great tips! It’s better to arrive as early as you can because mornings usually mean that you can enjoy the park more since there are less people.

  24. We have a Six Flags Magic Mountain here in California. Our family of 8 has yearly passes and we love to go there and to Hurricane Harbor (the water park part of Six Flags California). This one in Georgia looks like a lot of fun!

  25. It has been a while since we have visited an amusement park. Thanks for the tips = we always try to buy tickets in advance.

  26. We have a Six Flags in New England but I admit, I have not gone yet. I will have to go sometime and love your tips here for others who are going to Six Flags over Georgia this Summer season!

  27. I’d definitely have to go with a Flash Pass! I like amusement parks like this and it would be fun to check out the new Justice League experience.

  28. We have a Six Flags near us that the kids are begging to visit. They are old enough this year, so we will make a trip soon.

  29. This would be so much fun! We have a Six Flags about a half hour away that we need to check out.

  30. I’ve never been to Six Flags Over Georgia but I have bee to the Six Flags in Chicago, St. Louis and DC. I’ve heard from so many people that JUSTICE LEAGUE: Battle For Metropolis is such a fun ride! I’d love to get the chance to experience it for myself one day.

  31. I have heard some great things about it. Maybe one day we can use these tips when we take the kids.

  32. I never heard of this place before (but I am from the UK). This looks like a great place for children,

  33. Six Flags always sound like a place I would absolutely love to have gone to as a child, such an amazing thrill seeking place to go.

  34. I remember going to Six Flags as a kid. I didn’t know there was a Six Flags in Georgia!

  35. We love Six Flags. If there’s one thing we’ve learned after visiting so many different Six Flags, it’s this. A resource like this is invaluable. The parks are HUGE.

  36. Great, great resource! We love Six Flags over Georgia, and since we live relatively close by, we go there quite a bit.

  37. We used to have a Six Flags close to Cleveland, Ohio. When I was little it was Sea World (I MISS HAVING SEA WORLD BY US!!) and Geauga Lake. Then Six Flags bought it but they didn’t seem to be making enough money. Now it is just a water park and the rides side is defunct. Water parks are my favorite part of any theme park because it is always so hot! These are really great tips for visiting Six Flags.

  38. We have a Six Flaag (SF New England) up here, but haven’t been yet. They have a new coaster, so we are excited to go.

  39. I grew up going to Six Flags and have so many great memories. After my aunt retired, she managed one of the restaurants there for years. I remember one time we were at Six Flags and it rained and most of the people left and we almost had the entire park to ourselves. Great tips for planning a trip to Six Flags!
