Do you ever have a day when everything goes wrong? You know those days. The ones where you are short on time and long on responsibility. The schedule is packed. You don’t think you can squeeze in one more thing. That’s the time I realize I’m supposed to be attending a dinner or special event. Sometimes my phone rings. It’s a family member or friend from out of town. “Hey, Pam!” they say, “We’re in the area. Can we drop by?” Maybe this is a Southern thing, but whenever someone visits, it’s almost mandatory to ask, “Do you want something to eat?” This happens even when people are secretly hoping the guests will say no because no one has been to the store.
I’ve solved this problem by keeping a pie in the freezer. This Peanut Butter Candy Bar Pie Recipe is a staple at my house. In honor of Peanut Butter Lover’s Day, I’m sharing my recipe with you.
Peanut Butter Candy Bar Pie Recipe
This pie stays fresh for up to six weeks in the freezer, takes minutes to make, and is a hit with both kids and adults.
Preparation Tips:
- To Make The Pie Gluten-Free: Use a gluten-free pie crust and a gluten-free candy.
- You can use smooth or crunchy peanut butter.
- You can use either a pastry pie crust or a graham cracker pie crust.
- If using a pastry pie crust, bake the pie crust 10 to 12 minutes before adding the filling.
- Feel free to substitute different types of candy in the pie. I’ve included other excellent choices below.
- Plan ahead when making this pie. It needs to chill for 1 to 2 hours before serving.
Good Candy Options for the Pie:
- If you need gluten-free chocolate candy you can use:
(NOTE: Sometimes candy makers change the ingredients used in their chocolates. Always check the ingredients.) - Baby Ruth
- Original Butterfinger
- Heath Bars
- Hershey’s Kisses (chocolate)
- Hershey Bars & Hershey Bars with Almonds
- Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
- Reese’s Pieces (original)
- If you don’t need gluten-free candy, add any of the following to the list above:
- M&Ms
- Milky Way
- 3 Musketeers
- Snickers
Good Toppings:
Immediately before serving, add any or all of these toppings for a pretty presentation.
- fudge topping (usually found in glass jars in the ice cream toppings section)
- whipped topping (for an easy presentation use the spray bottles of whipped topping found in the refrigerated section)
- additional chopped candy
Freezing Instructions:
- Wrap the pie tightly in aluminum foil (without the additional toppings) and place it in an airtight freezer storage bag. Store in the freezer for up to 6 weeks.
- If you prefer, you can store the pie, after the initial one hour freezing time, in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Be sure to keep it tightly wrapped in aluminum foil to preserve freshness.
