I enjoy crafting and am always browsing pinterest and planning my next project. I’ve found so many good ideas that I enjoy trying or adapting to make my own. One problem I have discovered is a lot of them are too hard for the novice crafter. There is nothing more frustrating than starting a craft and watching it turn into a major fail, like my Halloween Gingerbread house. I’m a fan of simple, low cost crafts that anyone can do, like this Pumpkin topiary I created to be a Thanksgiving centerpiece. I know it looks small, but I wanted something that everyone could see over while they were eating. This can easily be transformed into an outdoor topiary with a bigger pot and larger pumpkins.
Here’s what you need to make it:
4 plastic pumpkins, in various sizes and colors
1 terra cotta flower pot
1 16 inch wooden dowel
Gold Metallic paint
1 piece of colored ratafia
Small piece of floral foam
Using the metallic paint, paint the pot until it has the desired amount of gold. I used my fingers to paint the bottom of the pot to give it a light, smooth coat and used a brush on the rim to give it a thicker coat, making two different textures. When the pot is dry, insert a small piece of floral foam into the base of the pot. Remove the stems from the pumpkins and using the hole where the stem was, thread the dowel through until it is pushed completely through. Repeat this procedure with each pumpkin. Place the dowel into the floral foam. Tie a piece of ratafia in the color of your choice around the base of the pumpkin on the top. The pumpkin on the top of my topiary came with the leaf and berries attached, so if you can not find one like that, use a small floral pick.
Oh that is so cute and seems to be so doable! Even for someone like me who really isn’t talented at all when it comes to crafts!

This is so cute! And love that it is easy enough for a beginner. Some of the crafts are just way too time consuming! I’d rather just buy it in that case because I’m not going to get that much satisfaction knowing I spent hours and hours on something!
It looks simple yet a great addition to the table. 🙂
