“Pam, you’ve got gray roots showing,” my hairdresser told me, “You should let me color them.” I studied myself in the mirror before replying, “Yep. I do. How much would it be to color my hair and get the highlights you are talking about?” After several moments of choking after hearing the price, I replied, “Maybe not today.” “Ok,” she agreed, “but promise me you will do it at home.” I planned to dye my hair, honestly I did, but life got in the way and I didn’t have time. One day when Bryan and I were shopping, I was bent over the buggy removing our items. “Will you be wanting the senior discount today?” the cashier asked. I raised my head so fast I would have bumped it and knocked myself out if there had been anything overhead. The cashier saw my shocked face and mumbled, “I guess not.” I fumed all the way to the car. “Mumble, mumble, senior citizen discount….mumble… not old enough..mumble….” When we reached the car, I announced, “I am dying my hair!” I think Bryan would happily agreed to anything at this point to get me to hush.
I’d been attempting to dye my hair at home with varying results. The ends always turned out lighter than the roots , my hair felt and looked dry, plus I had a hard time covering up the permanent grays. My son sometimes suggested my hair reminded him of a skunk; black roots with a white stripe down the middle. I knew it was time to try something new. I received a box of color from Madison Reed that promised me:

To be honest, I was skeptical. I always had a few errant grays that remained, no matter how long I kept the dye on my hair. I noticed this formula was different from the moment I opened the box. First, they included detailed instructions and also a phone number to receive help immediately if I had trouble while I was dying my hair. They also included all the supplies I need to achieve great results. I had two pairs of gloves to use. Yes, I am the person who always gets dye all over their hands if I have to use the same gloves. I also had barrier cream to keep the dye off my skin. Perhaps this is not a problem to anyone else, but I manage to drip dye everywhere. I left the dye on my hair for the desired amount of time and rinsed it with some trepidation. How would it look?
I have to say I absolutely love it! My hair is soft and shiny with none of the smell that usually accompanies the hair dying process. Using the tips provided on the package, my hair turned out the same color all over (seriously- a first) and covered the grays! I was able to wear my favorite headband again without worrying about grays peeking out. Would I use this again? Yes! It is a little more pricey than formulas from the local drug store, but it’s a lot (and I mean, a lot) less than what I would pay for at the salon. I am in need of a haircut and can’t wait to show my stylist the color and see what she thinks.

I am a hair dying addict. The joke in my family is they dont remember ever seeing my natural hair color. I go from red to blod and back again all with home hair color. I took an apprentiship and learned from a celeb hairstylist when I lived in Toronto. blond and red hair are the the trickest colors. the trick with red hair is it fades so fast that I use john fredia red shampos and conditions to keep the color lasting. I also use a a purple shampoos when I dye my hair blond. oh we could take hair color for hours lol. I always get told I look too young and the jaws drop when they find out Im 31. lol

I used to do my hair at home but hubby finally convinced me to go to a salon. Doing my hair at home was much more economical and this sounds like a great solution!

You did a great job! I tried to dye my hair once (ONCE) and it was a disaster. I think there’s still stains in the bathroom LOL At that point, my hubby told me he didn’t care where I went, just not to try it myself again. I obeyed, of course! LOL
I haven’t dyed my hair in years but I make a mess too! I don’t seem to have grey *yet* but I can imagine that when I do I might go back to dying my hair again. I’m impressed that it doesn’t have that dyed hair smell as all the rest do and it smells SO bad.
