Our Riberty 4th of July Bash

Thanks to Tony Roma’s Ribs for helping us host an amazing #Riberty4th of Julypartybox  bash.

The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays for two reasons; it’s in the summer, so sometimes the day can be combined with a swimming party, and we have a ton of delicious food, including homemade ice cream.  There’s one other staple the men in the family always demand; ribs. When I informed them we would be serving Tony Roma’s Ribs this year, there was much rejoicing. You could almost see the angelic chorus singing “hallelujah” over their heads.  I was happy too. Having ribs means grilling out, which means the men do (some) of the cooking.  I had been wanting to show off my new patio remodel, and this sounded like the perfect chance. I got on the phone and invited friends over for a “Riberty” celebration. Unfortunately, our Riberty celebration was delayed a couple of days, due to flash flood warnings and pouring rain, but we were finally able to celebrate!

The first step was creating a festive 4th of July mood.  I wanted something low key that wouldn’t get broken, so I decided to use plastic plates and glasses.  The kids had their own special plates and cups too! Once we finished eating all I had to do was toss the dishes in the dishwasher and boom, dinnerware cleanup was finished.

My next step was creating a SIMPLE menu.  I knew we would have plenty of ribs, but I knew we needed simple sides, like potato chips and dip, baked beans,  potato salad and cole slaw.  I could have made all this from scratch, but I decided to cheat this year. I purchased prepared sides, took them out of their containers and added them to my bowls. For dessert, I prepared a make your own sundae  bar with lots of toppings and add ins. I didn’t want to have to stop over and over to make drinks for the kids, so I assembled a “grab it yourself” drink station with juice for the kids and sodas for the adults. (Hint: Keep a lot of ice on hand for this!) The ribs are precooked so all we had to do was throw them on the grill  and heat them up.  They are available in grocery stores too. I picked mine up at Walmart. One of the guests came over to me and told me, “These ribs are heavenly. Bryan did an excellent job on them!” I told him, “Thanks, but they are Tony Roma’s Ribs and they are precooked. All he had to do was heat them up.” I’m not sure if our guest believed me, but all the ribs and the Tony Roma’s Barbeque I served was gone in minutes.

We finished the evening with the kids playing games and fireworks .

We had twenty one people and everyone had a great time. I was especially happy not to spend all evening preparing the meal.  Our #Riberty 4th of July bash was definitely a success. Now to convince Bryan we need to host another bash soon….

My friend, Jen, at SweepTight also had a Riberty Celebration. I’ll be sharing her post too so you can see another Riberty celebration across the country! What did you do on the 4th of July weekend?
