With six weeks to plan my daughter’s wedding, I needed ideas ASAP. Once we decided on the venue, a rustic 1930’s barn built by the CCC belonging to my brother-in-law, the plans began to come together. I knew I would be decorating the loft for the reception and wanted to continue the rustic theme. What better way to do that than withMason Jars? I wanted a vintage feel, so I used the Ball Heritage Collection Spring Green Mason Jars to make vases for the tables. They matched the wedding colors–pink and green-perfectly.
Here’s what you need to make them:
6 Ball Heritage Collection Spring Green Mason Jars
Flower bushes (I used the $1 pink bushes I found at the Dollar Store)
Filler for the jars (I used silk wedding napkins I picked up at the Goodwill)
Burlap (about 8 inches for each quart sized jar)
Velcro
Thin Ribbon
Scissors
To Make the Jars:
Place one velcro strip onto the mason jar. Attach burlap to the strip and wrap the circle of burlap around the jar. Place a strip of velcro onto the burlap and secure it to the strip on the mason jar. Measure a piece of ribbon. Tie it around the burlap to make a bow. Place the filler in the jar. Arrange the flower bush inside each jar. And you’re done! I was able to make 6 of these in around 20 minutes.
For the dessert and dining tables, I made painted Mason Jars by painting plain glass jars with glass paint and filling them with a flower bush. I velcroed a lace strip around each jar and adding a contrasting ribbon for a finishing touch.
To complete the table setting, I used the pint sized Ball Heritage collection Spring Green mason jars and regular mason jars for drink containers. I added green and gray straws for a cute finishing touch. To ensure everyone knew which cup was their own, I wrapped twine around the cups and attached a craft tag to the twine. I used a silver paint marker to add names to the cups and left the marker available for any unexpected guests. The Bride and Groom had their own special mugs with handles . I loved that they could use the mugs over and over after the wedding.
Everyone complemented me on the jars and how they added to the decor. It was a cost effective way to add a rustic element to the wedding. Have you planned a wedding in a rustic theme? What were some of your favorite ideas?
*I received jars from the Ball company for review purposes. I also purchased some of the Ball jars and used others from my own collection of Ball canning jars. All opinions are my own.
