“Santa doesn’t come to dirty houses. He likes clean ones.” This was the pronouncement my mom made each year at Christmas when I was young. I wasn’t sure if I believed this, but I was not taking any chances. As I got older, I noticed I felt better if my house was clean. It didn’t have to be spotless, but being neat, tidy and free from obvious stains, spills and messes were a huge plus. My children seem to think clean is the word that must not be spoken. I send them to clean their rooms and they reappear moments later swearing their room is a vision of cleanliness. “Is it Mom clean?” I ask suspiciously. They sigh and head back to their rooms for more work.
It turns out I am not alone. According to a recent survey conducted by OmniBus Scotch-Brite, 75% of moms would prefer a clean home on Mother’s Day to being served breakfast in bed. In addition, sixty percent 60% of moms would most prefer a clean house over other gift options like candy, flowers and a card. This year, I am doing something about this! Thanks to 3M Scotch Brite, (link here) I am getting the Gift of Clean from my kids. We received products I am eager (and they are less eager) to test. I’m even going to document their progress of cleaning on video, so I can have evidence for perpetuity. I probably won’t have much trouble with them cleaning in the kitchen, but I am concerned about how much I will get them to clean in the bathroom. (Ew, Germs!)
I do have two sneaky tips to get the kids to help clean:
1) Make clean up a game. Set a timer and have the kids see how many toys they can pick up and put in the proper place in ten minutes. While my daughter claims this didn’t work on her, I distinctly recall her scurrying around the house trying to clean faster than anyone else.
2) Put on music. I sometimes put on a short cd or dvd. We would clean through a certain number of songs. I considered it a bonus if I could sneak in songs I liked instead of songs from the latest kids’ show.

We always do our cleaning to music here… that way it becomes a fun song and dance party as well! 😉
I too like when my house is clean! Got to be honest though, if I received this cleaning basket as a gift from the hubby I would have to wonder what is is trying to imply lol
I love cleaning my house with music or the television on. The noise keeps me motivated so I clean more.
I must have music on when I clean. That’s to help keep me going and pass the time. I hate cleaning, and if someone gave me anything cleaning related for Mother’s Day I would be very disappointed as it would show they hadn’t thought about the gift at all.
I love scotch brite products and it’s usually what I pick up when I’m cleaning. I had no idea there was so much of them though.

Nobody likes to clean….it’s just human nature I think. But it is necessary, and since you don’t have a choice you might as well invest in the proper tools, right? Nice gift basket!

All I EVER want is a clean house! It just doesn’t happen. I know someday I’ll wish the kids were still here, messing it up, but I have to admit that right now all i want for Mother’s Day is a little time to do my floors!

I like to listen to music when I clean. The cleanup game is a great idea.
Cleaning isn’t the best thing to do nor is it fun, I tend to try and think of my happy place to ignore the fact I’m actually cleaning.

I would SO love to have a clean home over any other gift for Mother’s Day. We just moved into a new home, and I have to go to my old apartment to clean it tonight. I’m totally dreading it. I will be bringing my JAMBOX with me so I can listen to music while I clean. That really does help a lot!
