Simple, Elegant Holiday Centerpiece craft with Beatriz Ball

Simple Centerpiece

I have to attend and host several Christmas events and am always on the lookout for an easy, but elegant, centerpiece.  When I received a Beatriz Ball metalware bowl, I knew I didn’t need to look any further for an item to use for all my centerpieces this year.  Each of their lovely items is handcrafted, made one at a time, using the art of sand casting, and requires twelve people to finish the item.  Any item that has this kind of love and attention bestowed upon it deserves a prominent place in my home, gracing my table during parties.  I wanted a low centerpiece to encourage conversation and one that still allowed the highlights of the lovely bowl to shine through.

I began with the round Dakota bowl from the Soho collection, featuring a chiseled rim, faceted edge, and raised base.  I wanted something that matched the silver tints of the bowl and something that would contrast, so I added four colors of ornaments, glittery silver, silver, light blue and dark blue.  It took approximately 33 ornaments to fill the bowl.  I used different sizes, ranging from medium to small.  I picked up six Silver coated pine cone picks from the local crafts store and one led candle.  You could use any color of candle in this, but I thought white would be pretty with the ornaments. Start by placing a saucer upside down in the middle of the bowl and setting the candle on top of the saucer.  Arrange the ornaments to fill the bowl around the candle. Add the silver-coated pine cone picks around the edges, spacing them evenly apart.   (You could make the pine cones by finding small cones in the yard, spraying with silver metallic paint and coating with silver glitter.) To change the look of the decoration, simply change the candle and ornaments to other colors.  Red and green or gold and red would be lovely as well.

What simple decorations do you use during the holiday season?

  2. That is such a beautiful bowl! I also love decorating with ornaments and pinecones. Those glass balls are so affordable, and I can usually find plenty of pinecones outside. So easy and pretty!

  3. This is a very nice centerpiece. It is a perfect example of KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)!

  4. I have zero talent in table scaping! I have a hard enough time cooking with 3 little ones running around. I may have more time later in life, but for now the table cloth is as fancy as I get!

  5. That is really pretty. I definitely need to make something like this for the holidays.

  6. I love your choices for this center piece. It also could be easily switched out with just a different color of candle for the winter seasonal holidays. Love the bowl. Less is more in this situation.

  18. The bowl is so beautiful it would be hard to decide what to put in it. That is where I would falter. How did you decide to create with the items you used? They turned out beautifully. I like silver so much, I would want to allow it to shine through and then get lost in that idea and waa laah – NO centerpiece. I usually end up letting the dishes do more of the speaking and skip the center piece, but I really would love to make something like this.

  40. I love to use items from the garden for decorations and in one old cast iron pot (picked up for $1 at Goodwill) I usually put seasonal decorations from the garden. After dried flowers in the summer, the post is now filled with leaves in various colors and fresh pinecones to create a fall atmosphere.
