Simple Green Tea Lotion Recipe

The winter weather in Georgia this year has been unpredictable.  We were having a mild winter when Bam! along came sleet, slush and more snow than we had in years. All of this left me with dry skin and a fierce  longing for spring.  I am determined to have smooth skin by the time I’m able to break out the shorts!  Having read about all the health benefits of green tea and knowing how much I needed to begin a daily dose of lotion, I decided to combine the two and make this green tea lotion  recipe.
take 4

Warning: While this recipe is simple to make, be sure to follow the steps exactly! If not, within minutes  you will have a burnt mess you have to throw out into the snow. You’ll probably also have your husband question, “What is this mess in our backyard???”  Trust me on this one.  All you will need is three ingredients; a packet of green tea, a cup of coconut oil and a few drops of green food coloring.  You don’t have to use the food coloring if you don’t want to, I happened to like the green color.
Ingredients

To make the lotion:
Place two cups water in a double boiler.  Bring water to boiling and then reduce heat to simmer.  In the double boiler pan, add one cup of coconut oil and one package green tea. (Leave the tea in the package.)  Place the double boiler pan over the water. Simmer one hour, stirring occasionally.

Remove lotion from heat and remove tea bag. Add a few drops of green food coloring if desired. (I used Wilton forest green.) The mixture was slightly tinted a very light green when I removed it from the stove.  Pour into two half pint glass jars.  The mixture might need to be stirred before use.

This has a slight green tea smell and feels great when applied to skin.  Have you ever made your own lotion?
