This year I decided to spruce up my space with some seasonal decor. I forked out $5.98 at the local thrift store for a set of frames I liked, and challenged myself to make pictures for the frames for $2.00 or less. I succeeded with my Shamrock Pictures and Easter picture, but wasn’t sure what I wanted to do for Spring. I “happened” to be near a Michael’s and decided to stop and look through their dollar bins. Turns out this was a great move because they had discounted everything in the bins to 50 cents each. I picked up two packages of 3D paper butterflies for $1 and a sheet on scrapbook paper on sale for 20 cents, then rushed home to try out my idea for a simple spring picture.
Depending on the size of your frames, you’ll need 1/2 to 1 piece of scrapbook paper per frame, in your choice of a spring pattern. If you have a cricut machine, you can make your own paper butterflies or just trace a pattern onto scrapbook paper, if you can’t find the designs at the store. If making your own, trace a smaller butterfly to attach to a larger pattern for a 3d look.
Cut the paper to fit the frames and decide where you would like the butterflies to appear in the picture. Once they are arranged to your satisfaction, hot glue the butterflies into position.
Position the paper inside the frames and reattach the backs. Voila! Cute spring prints for $1.20. If you want to get technical and add tax, I guess the pictures would cost $1.33. I do plan to use the pictures for two months, so my total cost is less than 67 cents a month. Hooray for low cost decor! If you are not a butterfly fan, this project would look great with paper flowers too. I saw several packages of them when digging through the dollar bins.
What low cost ideas do you have to spruce up your house for spring?

I really like the long frames. We just moved to a house with lots of vertical space, so this is a great idea!
Very pretty! I found some wrapping paper – on heavy stock that featured drawings of male and female super heroes and made photos out of them to go into my kids rooms. It was like custom art pieces for them.
What an easy, low cost way to decorate! I love it. I really need to use this as inspiration to get my creativity out and about again! I know we can have some amazing decor around here if only I sit down and use my creative mind! I will try this with my tween, for her bedroom, maybe add a positive quote to it!
Awesome idea! I happen to be going to Michaels tomorrow so I will check those discount bins for sure.
Very creative! I love butterflies!
