Six Flags Holiday In The Park

Six Flags Over Georgia is the place to be during the summer. There’s a water park, coasters, and all kinds of family fun. But when the leaves fall from the trees and the temperatures start dropping, you don’t have to kiss your theme park fun behind. We were invited to experience Holiday in the Park at Six Flags Over Georgia. Although we received free tickets, all experiences were our own. We headed to Atlanta one Tuesday afternoon, aiming to reach Six Flags Over Georgia when the park opened at 4 p. m. If there’s one thing we’ve learned about theme parks during our rollercoaster-filled adventures, it’s that you should always arrive as early as possible to avoid long lines! Atlanta traffic is unpredictable, especially during rush hour, so you should always factor that into your travel time. That said, any traffic you do run into is worth the wait. Six Flags Over Georgia has been transformed into a magical Christmas wonderland that’s perfect for a family outing, a girl’s night out, a date, or any other excuse you can think of to head that way. When you walk in, you’re immediately greeted by holiday lights and faux snow. Although my husband and I were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance, my toddler was absolutely enamored. She couldn’t stop staring at the lights!

We made it in time to see the Christmas tree lighting at 6 p.m. There’s an interactive show before the tree lighting, which happens as it’s getting dark. The Christmas tree lighting draws a big crowd, so you’ll want to get there a few minutes early to claim your spot to watch it. You don’t want to wind up in the back, unable to see! After the Christmas tree lighting, the crowd disperses pretty quickly. This is a good time to seek out some of the DIY s’mores stations and purchase some marshmallows to toast over the fire pit. The s’mores stations got more popular as the night got darker (and colder), so you’ll want to hit these up first!

There are Christmas light displays throughout the park with different themes, like the Nativity and retro Christmas. These displays are enough to take up an hour or two, especially if you’re trying to take pictures! But if lights aren’t your thing, don’t worry. Most of the rides are still going, with the obvious exception of Hurricane Harbor and a few others.

For younger kids, Toon Town is still open, and the carousel area is lit up for Christmas. The rides in Toon Town weren’t attracting much of a line on the night we arrived, but the carousel and Hansen cars had drawn a crowd. The line for the carousel was worth the wait, and there is plenty of stroller parking! For older kids and adults, there’s several coasters running during Holiday in the Park. Although I didn’t brave the Goliath on this visit, I did walk right onto the Mindbender! Batman was a popular ride on the night we visited, drawing plenty of thrill-seekers into Gotham City.
Christmas at Six Flags
For the whole family, the train is running its usual course, with the addition of Christmas lights alongside the tracks! There’s also a special holiday-themed show at the Crystal Pistol, which starts on the hour. We managed to attend part of it with our toddler. By the time we arrived, it was standing room only! You’ll want to arrive at the Crystal Pistol a few minutes early. Afterwards, you can pop on over to one of the best rides in the park, Monster Mansion.

There’s plenty of food options in the park as well. We ate at Mrs. Claus’s Kitchen, which offers nachos and burritos as well as soups and bread bowls. We couldn’t resist stopping in the candy store to pick up some Jelly Belly beans as a treat for the toddler! There were so many flavors to choose from! She picked out Strawberry Jam jellybeans, while I opted for the Chili Mango flavor. By the time we left, we were exhausted and full of the holiday spirit. Although we managed to leave without a Santa hat or refillable hot beverage mug, they were extremely tempting to buy. Thankfully my husband didn’t notice the Christmas inspired funnel cakes— but if he had, you can bet he’d have had a few!

The park is open until 10 p.m. most nights during Christmas in the Park, but you should always check the schedule before planning your visit. Some days it opens as early as 2 p.m., while other days it opens at 4! No matter what time it opens, Holiday in the Park at Six Flags Over Georgia is a holiday must. If you’re looking for a new holiday tradition, this is it!
