Slime Popcorn Recipe

One of my favorite activities during the holidays is making cute treats that I can share with others. I’m using the term “holidays” loosely because I start the “holiday celebration” in October with Halloween. I may not be much for decorating the outside (or inside) of my house for Halloween. If I remember to put my cute Halloween wreath on the door, I feel like that’s a win. But when it comes to baking and cooking, I’m all over it. Preparing recipes that are easy but fun, like this Slime Popcorn Recipe, are an essential part of my cooking repertoire. I found the recipe in a Woman’s Day magazine long ago and have been making it ever since.

Slime Popcorn Recipe

This is one of those recipes that looks cute placed in clear treat bags, tied with an orange, black, or neon green ribbon and given as treats. Plus, it has only five ingredients, most of which are pantry staples, and takes around ten minutes to make. The one ingredient you probably won’t have on hand is the candy eyeballs. I used these Candy Eyeballs . You can find them at craft stores, like Michaels or Hobby Lobby or on Amazon. During the Halloween season, you can usually find them at big box stores, like Walmart or Target, in their Halloween baking section.

To prepare the recipe quickly, I usually use a bag of microwave popcorn, but it can be popped from scratch if you prefer. I like to use the popcorn without butter in the recipe, but any sort will do. One quick tip: Be sure to remove the unpopped kernels before mixing the popcorn and other ingredients. No one wants to bite down on a kernel while they’re eating.

I recommend using a paste food coloring because it will provide a more intense color, but any type of green food coloring will do. If you have neon green food coloring, that’s perfect. If not, just add the food coloring into the marshmallow mixture until you reach your desired color. Always start with only a few drops (2 to 3) and add more as needed. You can always make the color darker, but you can’t make it lighter if you’ve added too much food coloring!
