S’mores Bars Gift in a Jar

NeHave you ever had an unexpected act of kindness given to you by a friend or a random stranger? Over the years I have had many. They always seemed to come at a time I was down and needed it most. I have tried to instill the belief in my children to  give kindness whenever possible.  Everyone needs a pick me up sometimes and I’ve found the perfect gift; ooey, gooey S’mores bars.  Because who doesn’t love chocolate, right?
Smores in a jar

Here’s how to make them:

A delicious version of S’mores without a fire!
Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs (just crush up one wrapped package from the box)
  • 1 1/2 cups chocolate candy– you can use M&M’s, crumbled chocolate bars, chocolate chips, vanilla chips, whatever is your favorite
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup mini marshmallows
  • Additional ingredients needed:
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
Instructions
  1. To make the bars:
  2. Mix the graham cracker crumbs, brown sugar, vanilla and butter together until blended. Add the mixture into the bottom of a 9X9 inch baking dish. Place the chocolate candies on top of the graham cracker mix, top with marshmallows. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes at 350 degrees or until the marshmallows are lightly browned and melted. Allow to cool before cutting into bars.

To make the jar gift you will need one clean quart mason or decorative jar.  Place the crushed graham crackers on the bottom of the jar, making sure to press down firmly.  Add the remaining ingredients in the following order, chocolate candies, brown sugar and marshmallows on top.  Add a tag with the additional ingredients and the instructions and attach with a bow. (I have the tag I used coming to the post soon.  It’s trapped on my computer that’s in the shop for repairs along with a yummy photo of the baked bars.)

How do you teach your children kindness?
