Snowflake Wreath craft Tutorial

Snowflake wreath craft

Have I mentioned how much I enjoy shopping at the after clearance sales at craft stores? I go a couple of days after New’s Year and find items marked down to 80 or 90% off.  While it’s a great time to stock up for next Christmas. it’s the perfect time to buy red and white items for Valentine’s Day, green and white items for St. Patrick’s Day and silver and blue items to make crafts for winter.  (Hint: Don’t take the kids if you want to find bargains. They complain, “Is this entire store on sale???)  This winter wreath that I made was super simple and very frugal. I started by picking up 5 white snowflake cookie cutters for 19 cents each and a premade bow (because I stink at making bows) for 67 cents.  I also picked up a cheap spool of blue ribbon (50 cents), although silver or white would have been good too .  I had a grapevine wreath at home so I didn’t bother to buy another one.

All I needed was a pair of scissors and I had everything I needed to make a special wreath that indulges my love of cooking and captures the spirit of winter.  I began by positioning the bow onto the top of the wreath and  tying it into place. I fluffed up the bow and tried different positions for the snowflake cookie cutters until I found one I liked.  I slipped a piece of ribbon through a piece of the grapevine and the cookie cutter and tied a knot to hold the cutter into place. I repeated this for all the cookie cutters, then trimmed the excess ribbon from each cutter.  Voila! A wreath that cost me less than $2 to make and can be changed throughout the year by using heart shaped cutters for Valentine’s Day, Egg shaped cutters for Easter, turkeys for Thanksgivings, pumpkins for Halloween and candy canes or Christmas trees for Christmas.
