How to Make Soothing Sinus Shower Vapor Tablets

Not long ago I shared my recipe for Soothing Sinus Bath Salts to help provide relief from those pesky colds we deal with in the winter time. But, what about all the times we don’t have time to enjoy a relaxing soak in the tub? (Honestly, that’s most of the time.) The baby has also had a ton of cold symptoms- stuffy nose, coughing, sneezing.  Sometimes we sit in the bathroom with her with the shower running to give her a steam treatment.  These soothing sinus shower vapor tablets work well for her and for the adults in the family too to help relieve stuffy noses.  Just place it on the shower floor before starting the shower and let it work it’s magic during shower time.

How to Make Soothing Sinus Shower Vapor Tablets

I experimented with the essential oils in these tablets to find the combination that helped us the most. You can vary the amount of drops of oil you add to make the tablets more or less scented.  I used food coloring to give the tablets a cute color, but this is optional.

Ingredients:
Baking Soda
Cornstarch
Water
Peppermint Oil, and Rosemary Essential Oil, and Eucalyptus Essential Oil – 10ml
Food Coloring, optional, add as many drops as needed to reach your desired color. I usually use 3-5 drop.

Directions:
Step 1: Mix baking soda, cornstarch and water until mixture forms into crumbs.
Step 2: Add essential oils. Mix well.
Step 3: Add food coloring and stir until blended.
Step 4:  Place mixture into silicone molds. Pressing down to make sure mixture is tightly packed. If you don’t have silicone molds, you can use an ice cube tray.
Step 5: Allow to dry in a cool place until mixture is hardened. This will take several hours.
Step 6: When mixture is hardened, remove from molds. Store in an airtight container.

I would like to try these next time we have the need. (Hopefully not soon). Normally we put menthol rub on our feet and put socks on for while we sleep. Keeps the yuck off your chest lol.

  14. What a neat idea! I have never heard of anyone putting this on their shower floor. How long will it last there?

    • I usually put them at the edge of the shower, Val, so they will last longer. Depending on the amount of water hitting them, they should last 3-5 minutes.
