We had heard good things about Southern Burger Co. from a friend so on a rare day out with just Bryan and me, I asked him if he wanted to stop by to have a quick bite. Since he is a huge burger fan, it wasn’t hard to convince him. We weren’t sure of the location, having never heard of Bradford Lane, so we tried to program it into our GPS with no luck. We finally called the restaurant and a recording told us they were located on the street behind Walgreens. Southern Burger Co. was located in a new group of shops and it still took us a minute to find the correct road even though we knew exactly were Walgreens was located.
The inside of the restaurant has a fun, retro feel, reminding me of pictures of 50’s diners. We were greeted immediately when we walked in and asked if we wanted to dine inside or in their outdoor area. It was a warm day so we asked to be shown to a table. Heather, our server, was quick to take our drink order and offer suggestions for lunch. Looking at the menu choices made my mouth water. I wasn’t sure what I wanted, but finally settled on the Portobello Burger. Bryan, naturally, chose the Southernburger, a cheeseburger.
When Bryan’s food arrived I had to take a bite for “quality control.” It was moist, flavorful and oozing with melted cheese. The buns are made from scratch and I could tell they were fresh. The Portobello burger was nicely grilled and tasty for a vegetarian option. The fries are hand cut and prepared to be soft inside and out. My burger came with a side of their special recipe ketchup, which tasted, to me, kind of like cocktail sauce. It was ok, but I would have preferred regular ketchup.
After finishing my burger I was full. I passed most of my fries on to Bryan. When the waitress came by to ask if we wanted anything else, I was too full to look at anything else on the menu. The service was stellar, with the manager (or possibly the owner) stopping by every table to check on the diners and assure everything was okay. He also checked us out and had no problem accepting our Restaurant.com gift certificate and offering us “to go” cups before we left.
Overall I was impressed with the service and the food was good. I would definitely revisit the next time I am in the area.

You had me at burger! I just love burgers and the bigger the better. Those look really delicious but if only they were close by, I would surely be picking up on in the week.
