One of my favorite fall activities is our annual Halloween party with friends. We get together on Halloween evening, eat spooky Halloween treats and go Trick or Treating. Now that the kids have gotten older, they are no longer interested in trick or treating, but we still get together, pass out candy to kids and take a walk around the neighborhood. Sometimes we even head out to the haunted corn maze for extra thrills.
Each year we try to think of new Halloween ideas and recipes to try to make the meal fun for the kids. This year I plan to surprise everyone with my “Butterfinger Graveyard Cupcakes.” I enjoy baking, but I am not above using shortcuts when I am in a hurry. These cupcakes come together quickly and are fun for the kids to decorate as well, meaning they help in the kitchen and save me even more time! To make my cupcakes I used the Butterfinger bars from a Nestle variety package. That left the Nerds and the Nestle Crunch bars available to pass out to the kids for Halloween, if our kids didn’t eat them first! I’ve included my recipe for Butterfinger Graveyard Cupcakes below. Be sure to let me know if you make them!
- 1 box Devil’s Food Cake Mix, mixed as directed on package
- 1 (8 ounce) bottle of caramel topping
- 1 can (14 ounces) condensed milk
- 1 (12 ounce) container whipped topping (from freezer section)
- 24 chocolate sandwich cookies, crushed
- mummy, zombie, or graveyard toppers (usually found in the Halloween section)
- 10 mini Butterfinger bars, crushed
- Prepare chocolate cake mix as directed on package. Stir in Butterfingers. Pour cake mixture into cupcake tins and bake as directed on package for cupcakes. Allow cupcakes to cool. Poke several holes with a fork into each cupcake. Drizzle one teaspoon EACH of condensed milk and caramel topping over each cupcake. Top each cupcake with whipped topping. Sprinkle each cupcake with crushed sandwich cookies and top with a mummy, zombie or graveyard topper.
Another new treat we tried this year was Tombstone pizza. We’ve been eating Tombstone pizza for years, but this year, especially for Halloween, it comes with new spooky designs. How often can you have cool monsters on your pizza? I was so disappointed when I couldn’t find the spooky pizzas in our are that I amped up the spook factor by surrounding the pizza with “ghostly hands.” These are so easy to make! Just take a clear glove, add pieces of candy corn at the end of each finger, and fill the glove with popcorn. If you place the pizza on a cake plate, you can position the hands to look like they are grabbing the pizza. These hands make cute treat bags to send home with the kids at the end of the evening.
Thanks to Nestles, we have plenty of candy to help #trickurtreat too. The kids have volunteered to do their part to help eat any extra candy. We had friends come over and help us carve a pumpkin and sample the spooky treats. I noticed no one said no to anything!
What are you doing to celebrate Halloween this year? Do you have any spooky recipes to help #TrickurTreat?
