How to Create a Sweet Valentine’s Day Tablescape

I enjoy creating cute tablescapes for all the holidays, but there’s just something about Valentine’s Day.  It’s so over the top and lovey-dovey.  Most of the ideas I’ve seen are full of hearts and frills. I wanted something low-key.  Something classic. Something I could use reuse for Spring parties, Birthday parties or Easter parties.  I decided to go with a Valentine’s Tablescape that would look just as good decorating a table outside as a table inside.  Although I am going to have to wait until the weather gets above 20 degrees to start planning those outside parties!  Here are my ideas on How to Create A Sweet Valentine’s Day Tablescape.

Easy Valentine’s Day Tablescape Ideas

I started with flowers. After all, isn’t that a must for Valentine’s Day? I placed a plain white linen tablecloth (that same one from the local thrift store I use over and over) and covered it with a Garden Party Plastic Tablecloth. It’s easy to wipe up spills on this tablecloth and adds a great “flower” base.  Plus, the way it is designed makes a great border for centerpieces.

The centerpiece came next. I wanted to continue my simple look. I placed two white lanterns on circular wooden cutting boards and positioned them on each end of the table. Inside the lanterns, I added plastic candles with LED lights.  These are always great if you have kids sitting at the table. No need to worry about fires!  In the center of the table, I added a DIY Ceramic Teapot Flower Planter I painted pink.  I added a small bouquet of plastic white flowers to the bouquet for color and then wove a pink rose garland around the lanterns and planter.

Because I plan to serve treats instead of a full meal, I opted to use Garden Party dessert plates that I nestled into the center of paper Shabby Chic placemats.  For the finishing touch, I filled Mini Cake domes with Conversation hearts and placed them in the center of each plate.  These make great party favors for guests too.   Now that all the important items were in place, it was simple to finish up the tablescape.  I like to use “real” silverware and linen napkins, but if you’re in a hurry and don’t have a dishwasher, it’s easy enough to add paper napkins and plastic silverware. Pink would be the perfect choice for Valentine’s Day!
Valentine's Day Place Setting

I also added wine glasses to each setting, but for the kids, I like to use plastic wine glasses.  It’s an easy way to make them feel grown up as they sip their sparkling grape juice and one less thing for me to worry about them breaking.  Not only is my tablescape pretty (and pretty simple),  I only need a few changes to reuse it for other events.
