Laissez les bons temps rouler, translated “Let the good times roll,” is one of the first thoughts that come to mind when I think of New Orleans. The kids and I were ready for good times when we arrived at the Royal St. Charles hotel, conveniently located off of Canal Street and two blocks from the French Quarter. Unsure of where to park on the narrow one way street beside the hotel entrance, I sent one of the kids inside to ask. The helpful valet gave us directions to self parking, at a cost of $16 dollars a day, located two blocks away on the upper floors of the Hilton parking garage. Getting in and out of this garage was a terrifying experience I will never forget. My suggestion: Pay the upcharge for the Valet parking. I wish I had.
Once we walked back to the hotel, my first impression as I stepped inside was “trendy and contemporary.” From the business center with its big screen televisions and funky décor to the lighted, color changing reception desk, the Royal St. Charles conveyed the image of upscale, modern tech. We were greeted as we walked in the door by the friendly receptionist, who had us checked in and a room assigned within minutes. She explained we had the value added package, a daily $9.95 fee which included unlimited internet access, 24/7 use of the fitness center, unlimited use of the business center, unlimited local and long distance calls within the United States and use of the insured in-room safe.
The first thing that caught my eye when we entered our room was the 42” television. The kids were thrilled to spend some down time each evening catching up on the favorite shows. Thanks to a recent multimillion dollar renovation, all rooms feature new plush Serta beds, eco-friendly bathroom amenities and a coffee maker stocked with New Orleans roast. As I have a preference for soft beds, I thought the beds were very firm, but this is personal taste.
While the staff was super friendly to my children and kids under eighteen stay free in a parents room, I couldn’t help but notice my children were the youngest people there. The vibe I received, from the contemporary décor and the lack of a pool, was that the hotel was geared toward adults. I felt this would have been a great place for a “getaway” weekend with my husband. Although we were two blocks from the French Quarter, I was amazed at how quiet it was in our room. I don’t know if it was because we were on the 10th floor or because the rooms were well insulated, but very few sounds reached our room, insuring we received rest in a city known for partying all night long.
The St. Charles Streetcar line stops directly in front of the hotel, making it an easy way to tour various parts of the city when your feet are sore from walking. All in all, we enjoyed our stay at the Royal St. Charles, although the kids were disappointed with the lack of a pool. Next time we visit it will be for a kid free weekend.
I received a complementary stay at the Royal St. Charles for review purposes. No other compensation was received.
Thank you another magnificent submit. The location else may well everyone get that sort of details in this a great methods of writing? I’ve a demonstration up coming weeks time, using this program . about the look for such information.

I’m really looking forward to visiting this hotel. After reading your thoughts, I think my trip will be a girls weekend away, instead of a family trip. Especially since it will be my 1st visit to the city.
Kristin,
I am looking forward to your thoughts and on comparing notes after you visit!
This hotel looks gorgeous. I am dying to take a trip to New Orleans and think this might be the perfect place to take my family.
I love that you were right there on the streetcar line. The hotel looks pretty fabulous inside, Pam!!!
I would love to visit New Orleans someday. Thanks for the tip about the valet parking, I agree that an extra fee is worth it to not deal with hair-raising parking situations!
That looks like a nice hotel. I love when I come across photos of a hotel from “real” people instead of the staged ones on the hotel websites. I hope that you can do more posts like this.
It looks like you had a great time! I love the hotel! So cool!

Definitely looks like a nice hotel! Thanks for including the great photos. Bummer about having no pool though – that’s a must for a family trip for us…but this sounds like a great place for adults only trips.
Looks so hip and modern! Nice rooms!

I could see myself staying there with my family. New Orleans is somewhere I would definitely like to go for one of our next family vacations.
That hotel looks gorgeous but it certainly doesn’t appear “kid friendly” as you mentioned.
This looks like a lovely place to stay and thanks for the tip for the Valet parking. Often I’ve saved money by not doing things only to find I wasted my time instead.
I’ve always wanted to visit New Orleans. Looks like a great place to stay for some alone time with the hubby!
