Refreshment Abounds at The World of Coca-Cola

CocaCola2
We received complementary CityPASSes that included tickets to The World Of Coca Cola. All opinions are our own.

Georgia is the birthplace of Coca-Cola, that lovely, fizzy soft drink that we proudly proclaim “is the real thing.” We hadn’t been to The World of Coca-Cola since they had moved to their new location a few years ago, so when we had a choice of five attractions in our CityPASS, this one moved to the top of our list. We had to pass through a security check point before entering the building, much like airport security, and I forgot I had a container of pepper spray on my keys. I had to deposit them with the guard for safe keeping and have them returned at the end of the trip.

Our tour began with an introductory speech about the history of Coca-Cola from our guide, “Cookie.” She asked us to go around the room and tell everyone where we were from. I was surprised to find we were the only family from Georgia. Instead, there were people from countries around the world! I hadn’t realized how universal Coke was until that moment. Cookie led us into the Happiness Factory Theater to watch and eight minute film with dancing and singing bugs that showed us the meaning of “Happification.” From there we were free to tour the three floors by ourselves at our own pace.

CocaColaVault
The Vault with the Secret Formula.

My son was anxious to get to the third floor and the sampling room, but I made him see the other attractions first. I wanted to “see” the secret formula, but instead we got to see the vault. It was locked tighter than a drum and no one was getting into it! One of our favorite experiences was the movie in the 4D Theater. Expect moving seats, splashing water and 3D thrills as a mad scientist goes on a quest around the world to find the secret behind Coca-Cola. For anyone with neck or back conditions or pregnant mothers, the theater has eight regular seats in the back row.

ChinaCocacola
The different flavors available in Asia, including Smart Apple.

After we explored the history of Coca-Cola, including taking turns carrying the torch that was used in the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics, we were finally ready for The Tasting Room. This is a room that features Coca-Cola products from every continent of the world. My son had been craving the Apple drink from China so we had to stop at the Asia fountain first. We worked our way through Europe, Central and South America and Africa. When asked what my favorite drink was, I replied, “Cherry Fanta from the United States!” I can rarely find that anywhere and drank a small cup full. For anyone who hasn’t had enough to drink in the Tasting Room, another section is set up with free flow Coke machines to make our own flavor combinations.

As we left we were given a souvenir bottle of Coca-Cola to take home with us. It was the perfect ending to our visit. The World of Coca-Cola is located across from the Georgia Aquarium and down the street from the Inside CNN tour, making it easy to walk to several attractions.
