4 Easy Ways To Simplify Laundry

snowy day
This post is sponsored through a DailyBuzz ambassador program with Tide and Gain. All opinions are my own.
It’s a beautiful day outside. The ground is covered with a fluffy white carpet, making the world resemble a Winter Wonderland. The kids beg you to bundle up and come outside. “Let’s build a snowman or go sledding,” they suggest. You glance outside and are tempted, looking longingly at the freshly fallen snow. Then, reality hits. You realize you have a pile of laundry waiting for your attention. “It’s never ending,” you sigh, as you transfer a load to the washer. Does this sound like a day in your life? If not, you are lucky. I often felt this way until I found some tips to simplify laundry duty and make it fun or at least painless. While I may never be a person who enjoys ironing like some of my friends, laundry is no longer a dreaded chore. Want to know the methods I have found that worked for me?

1. Put a small laundry basket into each of the kid’s rooms and encourage them to “Make a goal.”
Before I did this I had to tell the kids repeatedly to take their laundry to the hamper. Walking into their rooms to find dirty clothing lying on the floor or pushed under the bed was not an experience I liked. When I placed the baskets in the kids’ rooms, I told them to try to toss their clothes in the hamper. This worked out well as they liked to sit on the bed and see if they could hit the basket. Having all their clothing in one place meant there were no surprise bouts of “I needed this shirt and it’s dirty!”

2. Do the laundry to music.
Folding clothes was not a chore I liked until I began to listen to my favorite tunes. It gives me some exercise to move to the beat while I am folding and I can dance around the house while I am putting up the clothes. Bonus: Everyone tries to stay away from me while I am doing this so there is plenty of peace and quiet, except for my singing.

3. Do a load a day.
I’ve discovered if I place a load of laundry in the wash the first thing in the morning, my laundry doesn’t pile up and seem overwhelming. I’m able to spend less time and keep the amount of items needing to be washed to a manageable level. Plus, I am not tempted to leave a load in the dryer instead of folding it because I know I will need to use the dryer soon.

Target
Tide Pods and Gain Flings are available at Target.

4. Use #TidePods or #GainFlings.
These pods contain detergent, brightener and stain remover. Instead of having to spend time pretreating my laundry, having three different products setting on the shelf that have to be added at different times or having to measure, I just toss one pod in the washer and go about my merry way. It’s an one stop process and I am all for anything that simplifies my life. These pods also leave my laundry with a nice fresh scent. What more could I ask for except for someone else to do the laundry? Tide Pods are available at Target.

Do you have tips to simplify your laundry and enjoy the little things in life?

  2. Can we simplify laundry by having a magic fairy that does it? lol! I use the pods for my dishwasher but not my laundry. I may change that!

  3. Love the pods, easy-peasy, unless I have a small load, then I use my normal liquid detergent. My girls are pretty good about using their hampers, but they’re still young.

  4. I love using the tide pods! Laundry just isn’t any fun for me! In fact I used to have my laundry sent out
. Our family is getting ready to grow from three to eight (blending two families) so I might start that up again!

  5. I listen to music while I’m folding the clothes. It definitely helps it go by faster. I also try to wash a load every other day or so. 10. I feel like I’m doing laundry ALL THE TIME. This looks like it could save a little bit of time.

  11. Well, I just learned about a VERY interesting laundry hack last night. My hubby had some jeans with horrible dirt, grease, and oil stains from working on the farm. He sprayed brake cleaner on it until the spots were saturated, yes, BRAKE CLEANER, like for your car, let it set, and washed them like normal. The jeans are like new now. I was shocked beyond shocked.

  12. That snow scene is gorgeous!! We just started using Gain Flings here and they smell absolutely amazing!

  13. I have not tried these yet but you have made them sound pretty worthy of my time. I will have to look for them next time I go shopping. Laundry always piles up around here, if it’s dirty or clean .. always a pile somewhere.

  14. I love the load a day thing…I do that too! It really helps keep my weekends free of piles and piles of laundry. I usually start a load early in the morning. I use my own homemade detergent, but when I am out I do use the Tide Pods. I like how quick and convenient they are.

  15. I like both Tide Pods and Gain Flings. It’s just so nice to be able to toss a little pac in there and call it good!

  23. These are my three tips! I do all of these three. Though they all help me out tremendously, the music is my favorite. If I’m listening to some good music, I can fold loads of loads.

  24. Wow! These are very nice advice. Doing the laundry is my least favorite house chores. It is very tiring and even after you just finished, you immediately have dirty clothes to wash again. Yep, it is a never-ending chore. Thanks to your blog, I can have a little peace of mind. 🙂

  25. I LOVE Tide Pods. LOVE them. Especially at Target. It justifies buying other stuff. 🙂

  26. I have a whole cleaning playlist! Cleaning is always better when combined with dancing and singing! Makes it fun for the kids too, win win!

  27. Even though I could do without the chemicals, I do LOVE Tide so much! It is a weakness!

  28. Simplifying laundry is something I need in my life! Laundry pods are an awesome way to make things a little simpler.

  29. Simplify laundry? You do not want my tips! Everything goes in together and I iron nothing.
It ain’t pretty, but its clean!

  30. We have a laundry sorter (three basket hamper) in our bedroom, and once a section is filled, I know that it equals a full load of laundry. (It’s for darks, lights and whites.) So it sorts everything for me. I also try to do laundry throughout the week, as needed and not let it climb my walls, waiting for the weekend!

  31. These are the only kind we use for laundry! I think they are great!

  32. Laundry pods are the best invention. Ever. We love them.

  33. Oh I haven’t seen these before! I wonder if I can use them in my front loader?

  34. I agree with doing one load every morning if needed. I had to go in the basement to let the dogs out, feed the dogs and do laundry, so I make it all one big thing to start the day. It works out great for me. The clothes may sit in the washer for an extra hour or so, but they’re washed and waiting! Works great for me!

  35. These are great tips. Love the one about doing it to music. Music makes everything better, much like coffee. 😉

  44. The “Do A Load A Day” tip is the one I have the hardest time with. I do so well for a long time, and then I get lazy. Time to get back on the band wagon!

  45. I taught my kids to do their own laundry. That reduced my chore greatly! I do have to keep an eye on my son though, he thinks the washer can take 5 loads at a time! 🙂

  46. I haven’t tried those. I didn’t even know about them. Tide is always improving

  47. I haven’t tried the Tide Pods yet, but I’m interested in trying them! I usually fold my laundry in the evening while watching my tv shows, so that I don’t really feel like I’m doing a chore 🙂

  48. I do laundry throughout the week so the weekend is NOT my laundry day. There’s enough to do on the weekend without adding that to the list! I love all of your ideas. I added laundry baskets to my kids rooms. Initially they decided they made better toy baskets. We had to distinguish laundry from toy and not waiver for a few months before we got it down pat. IT WORKS! Now, getting them to bring those baskets to the laundry room and actually do their own laundry is the next goal! I think the pods help in making sure they don’t over do it on detergent.

  49. I will have to try this, I love that there is no measuring just toss them in!

  50. I generally get caught up and then super behind on busy weekends.

  51. It’s not so much doing the laundry that is my issue, it’s folding it. But I like your idea of having a small basket in each kid’s room.

  54. I’ve never tried these before but, seems like they are worth trying. 🙂

  55. We use this for our laundry. We found that it is easy for the kids when they do their laundry!

  56. I so need help with laundry! It feels like it never ends! Those pods look really convenient. I need to try them!

  57. We like dishwasher pods, so these pods might be just the thing for us. I might not buy them until my daughter is out of the “eating everything” stage, though.

  59. We use these as well! They’re great! Just put them in before the clothes!!!

  73. Great tips! I love the pods. They are the best way to get my Husband to help with the laundry.

  83. These are great tips. In our family, everyone has their own laundry basket. And each kid is in charge of doing their own laundry on their laundry day. (well except the toddler cause she isn’t old enough yet.). But every batch of laundry has it’s own laundry day. The toddlers is Monday. The boys are on Tuesday. Towels & sheets on Wednesday, My laundry on Fridays. The husband even has to do his own laundry because he is picky on how the clothes are folded. He does his whenever he feels like it. He doesn’t like to follow my schedule. lol. But it really does make it easier, doing just one load a day. Plus then you aren’t waiting on someone else to finish their laundry before you can do your own.

  84. Dear Lord is laundry beast a thing in my house! It’s only me and my daughter but I swear we have so much to do! I think I am going to look into doing a load a day. There is always laundry and it can be done if we actually do it.

  86. Helene Cohen Bludman

The Tide pods are a fantastic invention! My elderly mother still does her laundry and it is so much easier with the pods. I use Tide Liquid — always have.

  99. We love to use the pods! My kids will even do the laundry because they like watching them dissolve before putting the clothes in.

  103. Great tips. In the winter time when our clothes are bulkier, I have to do at least one load a day (two on days it snows and a change of clothes is required). In the summer I can usually get away with every other day.

  107. Love Tide. Great tips also.

  108. I work on laundry a little bit every day. Having the kids bring their own laundry downstairs is a huge help for me.

  109. We bought little sorting hampers from IKEA so each of the girls could presort their darks/lights when they undress. It ended up making laundry sorting 1000% quicker!

  110. I haven’t had the chance to try these yet. I always use the liquid form. Thanks for the review.
