I’ve had to spend time in Alabama lately taking care of estate business. Last Friday night I found myself in Trussville, Alabama; a suburb of Birmingham. I wanted to get a quick bite to eat and turned to Restaurant.com to find some ideas in the area. Trio’s Local Bar and Grill stood out to us. Trio’s has a definite Sports Bar feel. The walls were covered with sports mementos from the University of Alabama and Auburn. I realized to late my husband had on a University of Georgia hat! As soon as we entered the restaurant our server greeted us and led us to a table.
Having never been there before I wanted to peruse the menu. It’s typical casual fare, sandwiches, pizza and a few Southern favorites. I decided on the 8 ounce hamburger steak with fried green tomatoes and fried squash. I have a slight fried squash obsession and, since I rarely fry any foods at home, only get them when I go out. Bryan decided on the twelve ounce hamburger steak with a side of fries and macaroni and cheese. The waitress was very attentive, checking on us whenever she passed by. After a short wait, our food arrived, along with a delicious, spicy sauce for dipping my fried green tomatoes. Each plate also included a piece of Texas Toast.
The food was served in very generous portions and tasted good. I was only able to eat half my meal due to the large portions! The fried squash were a little too brown for my tastes, but by no means burnt. I just happen to like barely brown fried foods. The macaroni and cheese was especially good, tasting fresh and homemade.
Because we never go out to eat without at least one child in tow, we had purchased a $15 gift certificate, which required a $30 purchase. I added up the cost of our meals and drinks and realized we were eight dollars short! We were able to add on two desserts (to go,since we were stuffed), a generous serving of Italian Cream cake and a equally generous serving of Peach Cobbler. The desserts were not made in house. I thought the cake was a little dry, but it was a hit with my son, who devoured it when I came home. Personally, I would pass on the desserts and just get a meal.
In all, after our meals, drinks and desserts, using our Restaurant.Com coupon, we paid $16.21, which I thought was a bargain. I was pleased with the service and our meal. I’m not sure of their hours, as I passed by around lunch time another day and they were closed, but it’s worth a stop if you are in the area.
