Ugly Cell Phone Towers Be Gone!

This is a partnered post with The Everywhere Agency and Stealth Concealment, but all opinions are my own.

Let’s face it, most of us would be lost without our cell phone. I am always on the go and use my cell phone for everything from texting the kids to playing games when I am stuck somewhere and bored. I’m not alone; 91% of people in a recent survey say cell service is as important as deodorant and more important than TV or coffee! With the need for cell service, cell towers are popping up everywhere. Did you know there are roughly 21 cell phone towers to every McDonald’s in the US? That’s pretty amazing when it seems like there is a McDonald’s on every corner. As a matter of fact, cell towers increased by 50% during the years of 2003 and 2013. One thing almost all cell phone towers have in common is the fact they are ugly.

When we got a new cell phone tower a few miles from our house our family happened to be driving down the road the day after it was installed. There, rising up amidst a crop of pine trees, stood a tall brown pole. Surrounded by three very fake looking branches on the top. Even the kids, who were small at the time, looked up at it and asked, “What’s that ugly brown thing that is supposed to look like a tree, but doesn’t?” It’s been there so long I sometimes forget about it, but whenever anyone new visits they ask, “Do they really think they are fooling anyone with that ugly brown ‘tree’? Did they think they could disguise it?”

With 7 out of 10 people saying they are concerned about the appearance of cell towers, is there anything we can do? Yes! If cell towers are in your neighborhood or coming to a neighborhood near you, you have the choice to conceal it. Everyone wants their neighborhood to look nice and this is such a simple way to change our community.  I’m looking at ways to get our “tree” replaced with something that will people will not laugh at when they drive by.
