Sick Pet? Need Advice? Try VetonDemand

I am being compensated for helping spread the word about the Vet on Demand App, but Simply Southern Mom only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. My pets are like small, furry family members. Or, depending on the species and if we are talking about sheep, large woolly family members.  We try to keep them healthy and happy, but sometimes, just like humans, they get sick.  Of course, they get sick at the worst possible times.  From the cat having seizures on the weekend to the sheep with a prolapse, I’ve spent hours trying to frantically call a vet to help my pets. Unfortunately with the sheep, I tried every vet in our area and couldn’t find one who was available on the weekend. Or, what about when you’re on a trip and your pet gets sick? We have a trusted Veterinarian for our cats, but what about on the road? That’s where the new service Vet on Demand™  comes in.

What is Vet on Demand? It is an app that can be downloaded to your phone, allowing you to see a licensed veterinarian immediately, from the comfort of your home (or car, if you are on the road.)  I tested the  Vet on Demand™ Interactive Care Platform™ and was truly impressed.  This app is a video chat that allowed the vet to see and hear my pet.  Because I wanted to test the information I received, I asked about my cat, Mitzie.  She has a “fur problem,” as in she licks and bites it all off.  She sees our local holistic vet, who had given us advice we use with her each day.  It was a little difficult to hold Mitzie up in front of my iPhone, but I had Bryan hold her and used my screen to show her bald patches.

The Vet I spoke with was not only very personable, but listened carefully as I described Mitzie’s symptoms and how she seems to be nervous and high strung. He recommended both traditional western remedies and holistic techniques. His advice matched completely with our Vet and he explained everything in even more detail than our normal vet!

I talked with the app creators on the phone and was pleased to learn they will be adding large animals services as they grow in the future.  There’s also an option to find a vet you like on the service and stick with them whenever you need advice.

Personally, I am thrilled to have a convenient and affordable option available to me, saving me the hassle (and expense) of making a trip to the emergency vet on weekends.  It’s much less frightening for the animals too, not having to leave an environment they are familiar with. I can see this app getting a lot of use from me in the future! You can find this brand new free app in the Apple App store.

  1. I love the idea of being able to get veterinary advice whenever you need it. Our pets are part of the family and we want the best health care for them too.

  2. Currently, we only have small animals, but this would be a great service to utilize for them. Thanks for sharing this!

  3. They are making a lot of cool apps to help people on demand. It’s not only convenient for the user, but for the doctor too.

Vet on demand would be an amazing resource to have. It would make it so much easier to get advice on off hours and weekends.

  8. This is brilliant. I can’t always get to a vet with all my kids and if one of my pets is sick I can’t not have them seen! This is really cool

  9. What a great idea. I wish this had been around when we had our dogs.

  10. I’m not sure why someone didn’t think of this earlier. I could have used this many times!

  11. I am going to tell my daughter about Vet on demand. She has called me sometimes asking me questions.

  12. I never thought about how it could save your animal the stress and fear of visiting the vet. I’d definitely use Vet on Demand.

  13. I can see this app as being super helpful if you have a sick pet. Great service and I love how they are making excellent use of technology.

  14. What a very cool service for people who don’t have a local vet in town or if the only vet in town is shady and they need a vet they can trust. We have Gold Fish so I don’t think I’m going to need to use their vet services but I know lot’s of friends and family members who own cat’s and dogs who could benefit from a vet on demand type of service.

This is a great service. I think it’s great to be able to get help from the comfort of your own home.

  16. This will be really helpful. When Jupiter or Rio gets sick in the middle of the night, we can just use Vet on Demand.

  17. It was great to see the farm animals! I think this could be such a benefit for farmers and people that live far away from their nearest vet. Excellent review!

  18. I also see this app as valuable for future use. I also received more detailed information about Brulee’s eye drainage than I received from my normal vet. However, I won’t substitute this app for the regular and needed visits to the vet for Truffle and Brulee.
