This is a partnered post with Purina. All opinions are my own.
“Mom, I just got a new dog,” my daughter informed me last week, “He’s part herd dog breed.” “Really, ” I asked, “and what is he going to herd? The other dogs? The cats? The chickens?” “No, Mom,” she said, and I could practically feel the eye roll through the message. “I am going to introduce him to the sheep.” “And you say I am the crazy cat lady?” I mumbled. One thing I can say for our family, we try to help with animal rescue and love supporting good causes. That’s why I was thrilled to learn about the Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND 7+ Clubhouse, a senior dog appreciation and adoption event in New York City on June 9 during National Pet Appreciation Week, which is June 7-13, to celebrate the launch of new Purina Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+ formula.
I first learned about Purina Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+ formula at the Better With Pets Summit in NYC last November. After years of research, Purina experts have discovered an additional energy source – fatty acids derived from botanical oils called Medium Chain Triglycerides (MCTs) – that can be used in addition to glucose. As a part of an older dog’s total nutrition, these MCTs have shown to help promote alertness and mental sharpness in older dogs age 7+. We watched a film featuring an older pet who tried the new formula for 30 days. The difference was amazing! He once again responded to his master’s commands and seemed more alert. I was so impressed I asked the researcher in charge of the project if Purina was making a formula like this for senior cats and, if so, could my cat be included?
Check out some of the highlights from the Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind 7+ Clubhouse:
A New York City resident spends time with Momo, age 14, from Animal Haven at the Purina Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND 7+ Clubhouse – For Senior Dogs Only at 168 Bowery on Tuesday June 9, 2015 in New York.
Dr. Marty Becker and his 12-year-old dog, Quixote, promote the launch of Purina Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+, which is shown to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs seven and older, at the Purina Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND 7+ Clubhouse – For Senior Dogs Only during Pet Appreciation Week at 168 Bowery on Tuesday June 9, 2015 in New York.
The event promoted senior dog adoption during Pet Appreciation Week and the new Purina Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+. Isn’t he a cutie?
Senior dogs enjoy a puppy-free zone at the Purina Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND 7+ Clubhouse – For Senior Dogs Only at 168 Bowery on Tuesday June 9, 2015 in New York. Adoptable dogs were brought together to celebrate Pet Appreciation Week and promote the adoption of dogs age seven and older.
Hamilton Pug, Mishka the Talking Husky and Chloe Kardoggian support fellow senior dogs at the Purina Pro Plan BRIGHT MIND 7+ Clubhouse – For Senior Dogs Only at 168 Bowery on Tuesday June 9, 2015 in New York.
ven if you missed the event, it’s no problem, you can still help senior dogs in need. For each photo of a 7 or older dog shared that includes #MySeniorDog and tags @ProPlan, the brand will donate one pound of BRIGHT MIND – up to 25,000 lbs – to the Purina Pro Plan Rally to Rescue network to help adoptable senior dogs nationwide.

Our chihuahua is getting old and fragile. Making sure they are fed and get the exercise is important.
Aw what a cute initivate program from senior dogs. We have to keep them healthy too!
My sister has a dog and they’ll need to think about this kind of stuff soon too. This was a great post. Thanks for sharing.
My very sensitive dog eats ProPlan and his skin has never looked better. We will not be switching now that we found a food he isn’t allergic to.
I think dogs get better with age 🙂 They definitely need awesome nutrition too!
I have not heard about Pro Plan, but we have a weimaraner that is getting up there and years, so we’ll definitely talk to our vet about it at our next visit.
What a precious little dog. It’s so important to take care of your pet based on their age since the their needs are all different and change as they age.
What a cute area for the adult doggies! Will pass this along to my sister.
My senior Boxer, Casey, turned 10 this year and she’s still going strong. We’ve had her two different foods in her life because she has such a sensitive stomach. I would like to try this. Might have to contact Purina and see if they can send a sample.
My dogs love proplan. We switched a few months ago after speaking to the vet and haven’t looked back since.
My friends who have dogs have great things to say about Purina. I am not sure however, if they are aware of Pro Plan Formula.
I think it is important to have nutrition plans for pets of all ages. As they get older, their dietary needs change.
Pro plan has gotten great reviews. A great dog food to give your fur babies.
My dog loves ProPlan. It is perfect for older dogs. Your pouch is so cute
We’ll have to look into ProPlan as our dog gets older. We usually just buy her Bil-Jac.
ProPlan Bright Mind from Purina is going to make a lot of older dogs and their two-legged family members happy, What a wonderful event to attend. I hope a lot of furry friends are adopted through the program.
My older dog would like the puppy free zone. Since she is older, the younger dogs make her angry.
Every time I turn around, they are making dog food better and better. It’s great that dogs are healthier.
Thank you so much for sharing. We have two elderly dogs and I have been wanting to change their diet to something else. I will need to see where I can get this in my area. That also looked like a wonderful event!
Pro Plan is such a great brand! I have heard such good things about this company and their dog food.
What a cute dog. Pro plan has been around for a long time. I imagine it’s a very trusted brand.
I love that it’s so easy to share. Things like this are fun and I always appreciate the companies that host them.
My favorite formula is Natural Plus Essential Vitamins and Minerals – Turkey & Barley – Dry Dog Food.
Our dogs are getting older. We will have to try out ProPlan.
You’ve got to be careful when choosing a dog food – a lot of it is mostly filler! Good to know some companies are trying to change that!
I haven’t heard about this type of food and we have a senior dog. Will definitely check it out! Such cute pics!
Our animals love anything from Purina. We will have to try ProPlan out.
Love all these photos. They make me miss my dogs and think it may be time to get another furry family member.
What cutie dogs! That looks like a great dog food to try.

I have a senior dog and I have been wanting to try a different food for her. I will have to try this Purina Pro Plan. It sounds like it would be the perfect fit for her. She is going to be 11 this fall.
Our baby just turned four but it is great to know that there are beneficial food options available as he continues to age. I would love to adopt a senior dog someday.
The Savor adult shredded blend chicken and rice formula.
I think my sisters dogs would like the Chicken and Rice formula I will make sure I tell her about it.
Some of those dogs looked so youthful I got confused by the “No Puppies” signs!
Sounds like an amazing brand! Really love the adoption of those pets, I know my next one will be for sure.
I’ve never used pro plan before. I have heard great stuff about it though! Sounds like a great brand! May have to look into it when my pups are older!
The new formula sounds great for older pets. It would be great to see some older dogs becoming more lively and alert.
Our bulldog just turned 7… we officially have a senior citizen. Does that mean we get a senior discount on grocery wednesdays??
