I have a list of candy recipes I make every year to give as gifts. The people who receive the gifts have their favorites, but I always try to find a new (to me) recipe to try. This year, while scrolling through recipes on Pinterest, I found one that kept popping up. It was called all sorts of names; saltine bark, toffee bark, and my favorite, Christmas Crack. I decided to make it but add a few new twists to the classic recipe. The result was this White Chocolate Toffee Bark Recipe. Everyone who has tried it says it’s addicting. It disappears quickly. I suggest making an extra batch for snacking.
White Chocolate Toffee Bark Recipe
One of my favorite things about this recipe is the ease of preparation. Nobody (or at least no one I know) has the time to stand over the stove for hours a day. With a short hands-on prep time and five ingredients, you’ll be saying, “Ho, ho, ho, I’m through cooking,” in no time.
Some tips to consider before you begin:
*Use a nonstick pot to boil the toffee mixture. It makes clean up easier.
*Line your dish with a piece of aluminum foil sprayed with cooking spray. Voila! There’s virtually no cleanup time.
*Substitutions are fine! Use semi-sweet, milk chocolate or dark chocolate chips instead of white chocolate chips.
*Use butter-flavored crackers (like Ritz or Town House) or saltines instead of waffle chips.
*Waffle chips can often be found in the ice cream topping section or in the cookie section of your favorite grocery store.
*Need a gluten-free version? Substitute gluten-free crackers or waffle-cone chips.
*This recipe can be made in advance and frozen.

- 1 package (3.5 ounces) waffle butter crisp cookies- about 18 cookies
- 1 package (122 ounces) chocolate chips
- 2 sticks (1 cup) butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup toffee chips (find them in the baking section near the chocolate chips)
- Line a 9″ by 13″ baking dish with aluminum foil, making sure foil extends 1 inch up the sides. Spray the foil with cooking spray. Set aside.
- Place a layer of cookies evenly across the foil, making sure all the foil is covered.
- In a medium non-stick saucepan over high heat, melt the butter.
- Add the brown sugar and mix until blended. Once the mixture is blended, reduce heat to medium.
- Cook the butter and sugar mixture on medium heat, stirring constantly, for four minutes.
- Immediately pour the sugar mixture over the waffle crisps, spreading it evenly with a spatula.
- Sprinkle the white chocolate chips across the top of the sugar mixture.
- Sprinkle toffee chips across the top of the white chocolate chips.
- Allow the mixture to cool on the counter for 10 minutes. Spread melted chocolate chips across toffee mixture.
- Place the toffee in the freezer for 30 minutes to one hour. Remove from the freezer and break into pieces.
Once the White Chocolate Toffee Bark is done, it can be packaged in tins to be given as gifts. Or just save it for yourself. It’s that good. I promise I won’t tell. What is your favorite Christmas candy recipe? Do you give homemade gifts?
